It’s time to celebrate the Subaru Crosstrek for kicking off its third generation. This tiny but mighty SUV is back with tons of new features to get excited about. However, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek made some interesting moves that may hurt it a little.
2024 Subaru Crosstrek: What’s new?
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is back with its award-winning recipe. It’s a sporty SUV that’s based on the Subaru Impreza. Just add some body cladding, raise the suspension, and send it on its way as the fastest-selling Subaru model.
Most of the updates for the 2024 Crosstrek include a new exterior design with a boxier shape and a more confident grille. More black cladding adds to a rugged persona with pops of yellow accents. Also, the taillights have a fresh look.
The interior has a modern layout with new tech, such as an 11.6-inch infotainment screen. But a 7.0-inch unit is standard. Subaru EyeSight driver-assistance software is standard across the entire lineup.
It has an 8.7-inch ground clearance with standard AWD and more capabilities thanks to X-Mode upgrades. While it has a stiffer suspension, it should feature a quieter interior. But that needs to be put to the test. Now let’s take a peek at a few interesting moves.
1. The Crosstrek is no longer a manual SUV
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek dropped its manual transmission option. This probably isn’t a big deal due to how unpopular manual setups have become. But still, seeing this feature biting the dust hurts.
Subaru had some street credit by continuing to provide manual setups. But now, the 2024 Crosstrek is only available with the continuously variable automatic transmission. However, you can control the vehicle manually with the paddle shifters.
2. The 2024 Crosstrek got smaller
According to Pickup Truck Talk, the Subaru Crosstrek just got even smaller. That goes against the trend of giant SUVs! While the Crosstrek actually has a longer wheelbase to possibly improve its ride quality, passenger space has taken a slight hit.
You may notice slightly less legroom and head space than before. Also, cargo space in the rear was slightly reduced. The Crosstrek already falls behind the pack regarding cargo space, meaning you may have to get creative to store all your gear.
However, the Crosstreek has wide door openings and a tall roof that are helpful while installing child seats and storing larger cargo items.
3. The 2024 Crosstrek doesn’t have more power
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek has the same engines as the previous generation. The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. It can take 10.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
You can upgrade to the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, which can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. It’s adequate but not exactly exciting. It might only tow up to 1,500 lbs like the outgoing model.
A little more muscle would seriously spice things up. However, there’s still hope. Rumors about a hybrid powertrain option joining the lineup are still circulating.
While the 2024 Crosstrek looks better, is more comfortable, and is smarter, it has fewer options available, lost a little room, and didn’t get any extra power.
