3 Things That Are Different About the 2023 Chevy Colorado
If you’re interested in buying a Chevy Colorado, it’s best to wait for the 2023 model. It’s entering the third generation as an all-new midsize pickup truck. It’s looking to overtake models like the Honda Ridgeline, Jeep Gladiator, and Toyota Tacoma for the first time in a while. As a result, there are plenty of changes. However, we think there are three things that are different about the 2023 Chevy Colorado that are better than the rest.
No more diesel for the 2023 Chevy Colorado
According to Car and Driver, the Colorado and GMC Canyon were two of three midsize trucks that still offered a diesel powertrain. However, that’s no longer true with the 2023 redesign. Moreover, the all-new redesigned 2023 Chevy Colorado uses a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the trim level, the engine power changes a little. For example, the base Work Truck and LT trims have 237 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the pair is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds.
However, opting for the mid trims, Z71 or Trail Boss, gets you a boost. These trucks have 310 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, equating to 7,700 pounds of max towing capacity. As a result, these versions of the Colorado have the highest towing capacity in the midsize truck category. Thankfully, this more powerful powertrain is also available as an option on the lower trims. Lastly, the ZR2 trim has the same horsepower as the mid-tiers; only its torque is upgraded to 430 lb-ft.
The Trail Boss package is now a trim level
Previously, the Trail Boss package was available for the LT and Z71 trims. However, the all-new redesigned Colorado offers it as a trim. C/D says it uses the same wide front as the ZR2 but downgrades the lift to 2.0-inches. As a result, the off-road-ready truck has 9.4-inches of ground clearance and 32-inch Goodyear Territory AT tires with 18-inch wheels. It’s best described as a ZR2-lite, as it has most of the same features but less serious off-roading capability.
For example, the ZR2 has 10.7-inches of ground clearance. It also uses the most enormous 33-inch mud-terrain tires available on the Colorado, LED lighting, front and rear locking differentials, a 3.42 rear axle, and extra undercarriage armor. Furthermore, Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers are standard as well.
A serious interior upgrade
Finally, the 2023 Chevy Colorado has a much better interior than the 2022. For the all-new redesigned model, C/D calls the interior a “major improvement over the outgoing pickup.” Each one comes with an 11.3-inch infotainment screen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. It’s the biggest screen available in the midsize truck segment for now. Later, the Ford Ranger will release with an available 12.1-inch unit. Furthermore, a new gauge cluster, steering wheel design, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear-seat climate control are available.
Next, there’s a new Off-Road Performance Display. This is an app that shows the owner information about the vehicle’s tire pressure, pitch, roll, g-force, GPS, and altitude. It’s also got plenty of options for drive modes, which doesn’t include a Sport setting. Instead, buyers get Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja options for specific throttle control and shifting situations. Lastly, there are up to 10 camera views, plus using the Colorado’s Hitch Guidance software, which makes lining up the hitch easy.
