The Jeep Wrangler is a beloved SUV that causes people to form entire clubs just to talk about how much they love their SUVs. Yet are they really as great as they seem, or is the devotion of Jeep Wrangler owners misplaced? Here are three things that Jeep Wrangler owners actually don’t like about their SUVs.

The Jeep Wrangler does better on trails than the road

Cars.com says that one of the Jeep Wrangler‘s strengths also happens to be one of its greatest weaknesses. The Jeep Wrangler does well off-roading – really, really well. Yet its ability to handle the actual road isn’t as great. The Wrangler’s steering on the highway isn’t as tight as some Wrangler owners would like. In addition, it doesn’t really do well in the city, either.

The experts at Cars.com say this is to be expected. They compare the Wrangler to a pickup truck more than the Wrangler’s bigger, more road-worthy sibling, the Grand Cherokee.

The Wrangler’s roof can cause some real problems

If there’s one thing that Jeep Wrangler owners hate about their SUVs, it’s the roof. While being able to take the top off and enjoy warm weather and the wind in your hair is certainly a selling point of the Jeep Wrangler, wrestling with the roof probably isn’t. Getting the roof off and on has always been a hassle, and Jeep tried to make it easier in 2018 in various ways, including getting rid of the zippers on the soft top.

While the changes that Jeep made to its soft top were certainly appreciated by Wrangler owners, the hard top continues to present problems. Because some people are still having a hard time taking the roof off and putting it on themselves, Jeep has tried to further simplify things. It did this by adding a button, Sky One-Touch Power-Top. This allows a person to put the roof up and down with just one touch (as the name suggests). Perhaps the biggest caveat is that this feature is only available on the Wrangler Unlimited four-door model.

The Wrangler isn’t exactly cheap

The Jeep Wrangler is a smaller SUV, and it doesn’t come with a whole lot of bells and whistles. Sure, its off-road capabilities make it an attractive vehicle, and its general style and image contribute to its cult status. Yet all of that doesn’t come cheaply. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler price starts at $29,725, while the Wrangler Sport starts at $31,320. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 price is an astonishing $76,395. There’s now a plug-in hybrid Wrangler available for $54,125.

You won’t save any money by buying used right now, either. Cars.com notes that the median price for 2014 to 2017 Jeep Wranglers was $44,497 in November of 2021. Unless they were all Wrangler Rubicon 392s, it’s hardly a good price.
