It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone is meant to stand out, even in a sea of similar pickup trucks. One of the big selling points of the Toyota Tundra Capstone is the hybrid powertrain. The new iForce MAX hybrid powertrain with 437 hp from the twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a 36 kW electric motor powers the Capstone. With 583 lb-ft of torque, the Tundra Capstone is suitable for scooting around town and taking on a highway trip. Plus, it has a zero to 60 mph time of 6.5 seconds, which is excellent for a truck of its size.

Thanks to that, the Tundra Capstone has a pretty solid towing and payload capacity. The Capstone has a max towing capacity of 10,340 pounds and a max payload capacity of 1,485 pounds. That isn’t going to be a class-leading amount of towing, but it is enough for someone who wants a truck for the occasional towing situation.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5

You might not know about Toyota Safety Sense yet, but it is worth knowing about. The Tundra Capstone will come with the most up-to-date system, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. Some of the features included are Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection to help detect vehicles or people before an accident. Toyota says it can see a “pedestrian in low light, a bicyclist in the daytime, an oncoming vehicle, and a pedestrian at intersections when making a turn.”

Toyota wants the 2022 Tundra to be able to detect danger before it is too late. It will use audio and visual alerts in certain conditions. The Toyota truck also has an emergency steering assist that can help stabilize the vehicle in such a situation. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert, and Lane Tracing Assist help keep the truck in its lane.

Toyota also has Rear Seat Reminder to remind drivers to check the back seat if the driver opened a door within 10 minutes of being turned on. There is also a reminder message displayed on the instrument cluster.

The Capstone is one stylish pickup truck

If you like chrome, that is. The Tundra Capstone comes with 22-inch wheels that the automaker says are the biggest ones ever offered from the factory. The grille has a color-keyed outer frame with more chrome. The word TUNDRA reflects from the bottom of the grille. The seats are semi-aniline leather-trimmed and have a color combination that is only found on this trim level.

The glass on the front doors is acoustic glass to ensure the cabin is as quiet as possible. The new 10-inch Head-Up Display helps drivers stay on the road. A new 14-inch multimedia touchscreen display is also featured.

If you are trying to get to the 200,000-mile mark with a Toyota truck, why not give the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone a shot? But buyer beware, this one isn’t going to be easy to find by any means.
