Put down the pitchforks. We know that the Chevrolet Equinox is a comfortable SUV to consider with a smooth ride and plenty of passenger space. However, critics quickly point out that the 2022 Chevy Equinox is a bit bland. So, it’s time to see why. 

Is the 2022 Chevy Equinox worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Chevy Equinox is worth buying if you’re looking for a comfortable option that’s smooth and agile. It has more than enough passenger space to keep the family happy and is value-packed. 

It’s just a little blah compared to rivals like the Mazda CX-5. Edmunds even recommends considering the Honda CR-V or Ford Escape instead. On top of that, Car and Driver calls the Equinox unremarkable. So, let’s see what the problems are. 

1. The Equinox is a little sluggish 

The 2022 Chevy Equinox is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 17 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.7 seconds, which is pretty lackluster. 

It can be slow to downshift, and the handling is a bit awkward. It’s just not an athletic option. You can upgrade to the Equinox RS trim for 19-inch black wheels, black leather upholstery with red accent stitching, roof rails, and a unique gear shifter. 

However, it’s primarily an appearance package. It doesn’t come with any extra power. Also, Car and Driver shared that the large wheels impact the smooth ride quality. 

Also, the Equinox can only tow up to 1,500 lbs, while the Toyota RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 lbs. It can be equipped with all-wheel drive to help tackle slippery conditions, though. 

2. The 2022 Equinox has a drab interior

Edmunds mentions that the 2022 Chevy Equinox has a disappointing interior when you consider the price. It starts at $26,300, and the Premier trim increases the price to about $31,500, making it an affordable option. 

Luxury and convenience features such as leather upholstery and a wireless charging pad are limited to higher trim levels. Edmunds notes that it has a lackluster design, but it seems simple and effective. 

While passenger space is excellent, it comes at the cost of cargo space. The Equinox only provides 29.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 63.9 cubes total. This is average for the class. 

3. The Equinox could have better tech 

The 2022 Chevy Equinox has a 7.0-inch infotainment screen that can be upgraded to an 8.0-inch unit. It works fine, but rivals have larger screens. Also, there’s no head-up display, and the digital gauge cluster could be more attractive. 

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but they don’t have wireless connectivity. But you can connect your phone via Bluetooth. If you opt for the Premier trim and Convenience package, you can get ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera display. 

Similar features are easier and cheaper to access with rivals. But the infotainment software is fast and easy to use. 

The Equinox is a well-rounded option with an excellent reliability rating. It checks a lot of boxes for families. It just doesn’t stand out against the competition.
