The Model S changed the game regarding luxury electric vehicles (EVs). However, it has its issues. U.S. News says that the flagship electric luxury sedan has a few problems, all of which are interior-related. Is Tesla going to change Model S design?

The 2023 Tesla Model S isn’t too different from the preceding 2022 model. In fact, TrueCar simply states that there are “few changes for 2023.” The exterior design is similar to the 2022 and 2021 models. Also, the interior remains virtually unchanged, right down to the horizontal infotainment screen. 

Still, U.S. News says the interior is one of the Model S’ major problems. Along with the interior, they point out that the model’s lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is irritating. Moreover, the Tesla’s yoke steering wheel isn’t for everyone. 

What is wrong with the 2023 Tesla Model S’ interior?

While Tesla is gunning for elegant simplicity in its minimalist interiors, U.S. News finds it spartan for the Model S’ price. Additionally, the large touchscreen takes the place of analog controls, which makes the infotainment system “overly reliant” on the substantial screen. As a result, the reviewers gave the Model S’ interior a 6.2 out of 10.0. 

Does Tesla Model S support CarPlay?

One of the most common complaints about the Tesla Model S is the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Instead, Tesla uses its own system to pair with your smartphone. 

However, “walkarounds” allow users to hack their Model S EVs to add CarPlay or Android Auto if they wish. Still, you won’t get a stock Tesla infotainment system that incorporates Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. According to Not a Tesla App, Tesla won’t include the features as it doesn’t want to “break up the Tesla experience.”

Let’s face it, lofty labels like that are the reason why Tesla-stans are their own automotive subculture in 2023. 

Do all Tesla Model S cars have a yoke steering wheel?

The 2023 Tesla Model S has a yoke-style steering wheel, meaning it has a wheel with grip surfaces around the 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock positions and a lower horizontal wrap instead of a fully-rounded wheel. 

However, potential owners can opt for a rounded wheel for the 2023 Model S. That’s good news, as the steering yoke had Tesla fans divided. Still, if you like the yoke steering wheel, it’s an option on the new EV and provides an unobstructed view of instrumentation. 

Is Tesla Model S worth it?

A 2023 Tesla Model S is worth consideration, but it is not alone in the luxury EV market anymore. Competitors like the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan provide long-range alternatives with arguably better looks inside and out. 

Still, Tesla claims the Long Range trim will cover 405 miles on a single charge. That’s more than any Audi or Porsche model will offer. Moreover, the automaker says the Plaid trim will hit 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds. That’s a lot to brag about.
