3 Things We Love About the 2022 Infiniti QX55
There’s nothing better than a new take on an old favorite. That’s why Infiniti’s debut of the all-new QX55 is so exciting. The luxury automaker has taken on the task of releasing a new SUV that harkens back to some of their older stylings while ushering in loads of technological advancements. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is in its infancy and won’t arrive in North America until Spring 2021. However, Infiniti’s latest creation is undoubtedly worth keeping an eye on.
On paper, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is a practically perfect entry that’ll attract new buyers, as well as those who long for the old Infiniti FX. That’s why we have pinpointed several aspects that we especially love.
Fastback-like styling
Infiniti isn’t shy about revealing its inspiration for its all-new SUV. The 2022 Infiniti QX55’s fastback-inspired silhouette is pulled from the Infiniti FX/QX70, which was discontinued in 2017.
This head-turning design stands out from the rest of the Japanese luxury manufacturer’s SUV lineup. However, it isn’t entirely unique in the industry. Other crossovers like the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and BMW X4 also display a rounded, coupe-like roofline along with a sleek, curvy front end. Unfortunately, the QX55’s sloping roof may result in less headroom and cargo space than similarly sized models like the Infiniti QX50. But it might be worth it for the added personality.
That’s not to say that Infiniti copied the German automakers. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 has a design that’s all its own. It has a large, distinctive grille and cat-eye LED headlights that command attention. Plus, the QX55 features Infiniti’s signature “piano key” taillights comprised of 45 individual LEDs.
Every 2022 Infiniti QX55 has a VC-Turbo engine
Along with a bold design comes an innovative powerplant. Infiniti’s variable compression turbocharged (VC-Turbo) engine is standard on all three trims of the 2022 QX55.
Infiniti describes its heralded engine as a blend of a high-performance four-cylinder and a diesel. This helps the SUV achieve peak performance while maintaining stellar fuel efficiency.
While we don’t yet have gas mileage estimates, we know that the 2022 Infiniti QX55 delivers 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the lack of an available V6 engine adds a touch of disappointment. There’s always a chance that one is added later, perhaps on a Red Sport trim level. However, a more robust powerplant might not be necessary.
The VC-Turbo engine should be more than enough power for most drivers, considering the SUV’s relatively compact stature. Plus, if it inherits any of the FX’s agile driving dynamics, the QX55 could be one of the most fun-to-drive entries in its class.
Dual-screen infotainment display and cutting-edge technologies
Bells and whistles sway many shoppers, and we can’t blame them. Who doesn’t love to fiddle with the latest technology the automotive industry has to offer. Thankfully, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is loaded with goodies.
The QX55 treats its owners with a snazzy dual-screen infotainment touchscreen display. The top screen measures eight inches, while the bottom one is seven inches. Best of all, this infotainment system is compatible with a wireless version of Apple CarPlay. However, Android Auto users will still need to link their smartphone via a charging cable.
The only other known features are a drive mode selector and a 16-speaker Bose premium sound system. Although plenty of other technologies will likely be revealed shortly. Regardless, we can’t wait for more information. We’re anxiously awaiting the pricing of the 2022 Infiniti QX55, as that will help indicate if this crossover can dominate the market or if it will fade into the background.
