Toyota is on a roll with its recent redesigns. The automaker has redesigned the Tundra, Sequoia, and the Prius. The Tacoma midsize pickup truck is up for a redesign next. The brand is teasing a new configuration called the Trailhunter. Here’s what auto enthusiasts expect from a new Toyota Tacoma off-roading trim.

The Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter should have plenty of ground clearance

Ground clearance is incredibly important to the success of any off-roading configuration. Adequate ground clearance allows vehicles to clear some obstacles on the ground without incurring severe damage. The best off-road vehicle configurations often boast extraordinary ground clearance.

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road has a whopping 9.4 inches of ground clearance. Some Jeep Gladiator models get up to 11.1 inches of ground clearance. Once the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter has over 8.5 inches of ground clearance, it should be able to tackle mild off-roading obstacles.

If Toyota really wants to impress consumers, the Tacoma Trailhunter will have at least 9.4 inches of ground clearance like the TRD Off-Road configuration. After all, if you’re huntin’ for trails, you should be able to deal with the gnarliest off-road challenges.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter should be loaded with awesome standard features

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro comes with a multi-terrain monitor with camera, skid plates on the engine and front suspension, and a tire pressure monitor system with individual tire location alert. It also includes a leather-trimmed steering wheel, a remote keyless entry system, and wireless device charging.

The Tacoma Trailhunter should provide a similar variety of off-roading features, safety features, and creature comforts. If the Trailhunter configuration is to be successful, it must offer a sufficient amount of standard features that would cause consumers to choose it over the Tacoma’s other trim levels (and there are several).

It seems that the Trailhunter will offer a different degree of off-roading capability to the other Tacoma options to spice things up for the 2024 redesign. Autoblog claims that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter may be a “step above” the TRD Pro based on the few details that have been teased thus far.

There’s still much to learn about the new Tacoma, Toyota has definitely piqued the interest of off-roading enthusiasts. After all, the Taco is a legendary off-roading midsize pickup truck, and Toyota has only made it more capable in recent years.

Tacoma fans want a truck that won’t break the bank

Part of the Toyota Tacoma’s overall appeal is its affordability. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma starts at just $27,750. The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro starts at $47,185. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter could easily start at over $50,000. With that being said, the average new vehicle price is nearly $50,000.

As long as the Tacoma Trailhunter’s price is reasonably affordable based on its standard features, it should become popular among a niche market of drivers looking for turn-key off-road pickup trucks. Tacomas tend to retain their value well, so the Trailhunter could actually appreciate in value over time depending on its availability.
