3 Trucks Top the Best Selling Vehicles of 2023, So Far
As we continue through the early months of 2023, we are starting to see some clear trends in the automotive industry when it comes to sales. To nobody’s surprise, SUVs and trucks continue to dominate the entire American automotive industry. Brands like Ford and Chevy have loyal following that’s always on the lookout for their latest trucks.
As we continue through 2023, will we see trucks and SUVs continue their trend of marketplace dominance, or will we have a resurgence in other vehicles that will compete for the top spot? Only time will tell, but for now, here is everything you need to know about the top three best-selling vehicles in America for the first quarter of 2023 according to Car and Driver.
Ram comes in third with a great lineup of trucks
The Ram lineup of trucks may not have the same pedigree as the Chevy and Ford offerings, but they are still a favorite for many loyalists. The Ram lineup does what other pickup truck companies fail to do; keep truck ownership affordable. The 2023 Ram 1500 Classic starts at around $32,590.
While it may not be the biggest seller in the pickup truck market, Ram does a good job of offering barebones, base model offerings just as much as fully loaded, offroading pickups. In total, Ram Pickup sales ended up at around 105,350 units sold in the first quarter of 2023.
Despite these fantastic numbers, sales numbers are lower than usual, with a 17% decline in sales. Despite this dip, the Ram lineup seems confidently placed in the third position in sales for the 2023 calendar year so far.
The Chevy Silverado retains second place
Just like Ram’s pickups, the Chevy Silverado sales numbers include all trim levels, from light-duty variants to heavy-duty pickups. In total, the Chevy Silverado has sold 123,994 total units for the first quarter of 2023, giving it a strong position in sales.
The Silverado 1500 base model starts at around $36,300, with 2500 models starting at $41,500, and 3500 models starting at $42,700.
The Silverado lineup has a bit better legroom and headroom than the Ram 1500, and the Silverado also has a better-turning radius and it is slightly longer than the Ram as well. A big part of Silverado sales is also due to brand loyalty, with many families having generations of truck buyers that choose Chevy trucks year after year.
While we may only be a quarter of the way through 2023, the Silverado seems ready to take the silver medal in U.S. sales.
The Ford F-Series remains the king
If you are well-informed about the American automotive industry, it is no surprise to see the Ford F-Series at the top of this list. According to Ford, the F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in America for 46 consecutive years
That is a record that continues to this day, and a record that will probably never be broken in our lifetime. The totals for the first quarter of 2023 show the F-Series of trucks coming home with 170,377 total units sold. This number also includes around 4,291 F-150 Lightning pickup trucks as well.
If you had any hope of a new record holder in sales, you can put those to rest; the Ford F-Series is seeing a 21% increase in sales compared to the first quarter of 2022. The F-Series of trucks truly has a vehicle for everyone in America.
From bare-bones work trucks to leather seat-equipped family haulers, to even full-electric city-dwelling trucks, the F-Series of trucks continues to sell at such a high level due to the lineup’s ability to reflect the modern American and what the modern American needs.
With Ford Lightening production increasing over the year, this may be one of the best-selling F-Series years of all time.
