3 Ugliest SUVs of All Time That Were Actually Sold in the USA
Not every car, truck, or SUV that hits the market is a good-looking option. For some, the ugliest SUVs of all time probably represented a good deal on a sport utility vehicle and nothing more. Except for the brand-new BMW at the end, no one has an explanation for that. While beauty is subjective, and people might disagree with this list, there is no excuse for the looks of the XM.
You can list the ugliest SUVs of all time without the Pontiac Aztek
Ok, the 2005 Pontiac Aztek is low-hanging fruit. This shapely SUV actually received pretty high scores from Edmunds, nothing the Aztek has a “versatile interior.” All-wheel drive was an available option for buyers, which made it a good option for those in colder climates.
Unfortunately, the good things ended there. Interior materials were cheap and didn’t last long, while the engine was too weak to really move the SUV. Mentioning the shape is obvious, but besides being horrifyingly ugly, it offered poor visibility all around.
Owners in the comments mention that one 2005 Aztek had “428,000 miles on the original engine and trans,” which is great for any SUV. Another couple said it would be missed thanks to the Pontiac SUVs’ ability to fit full-size skis under the back seat. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and those people own 2005 Pontiac Aztek SUVs.
List Price Estimate: $2,136 – $3,537
Your eyes do not deceive you; the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet is one of the ugliest SUVs of all time
Some people might disagree about the 2014 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. Nissan offered this fabulous SUV with all-wheel drive for drivers who might need it. However, many buyers seemed to be women in warmer climates because who wants a convertible Murano for the cold?
The back seat was roomy for how big the vehicle was overall, and the engine was powerful enough to keep up with traffic. Unfortunately, cutting the roof off the Murano didn’t seem to offer any added benefits. The traditional Murano wasn’t a bad option overall.
Al fresco driving does have its benefits, but the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet is still one of the ugliest SUVs ever to hit the market. People say that once you drive it, you’ll change your mind. Please let us know if that has happened to you.
List Price Estimate: $14,393 – $17,919
Save yourself and avoid looking at the BMW XM
Prepare for jimmies to be rustled! The 2023 BMW XM isn’t yet out on the market, but it has made this prestigious list of ugliest SUVs. If there was more time, most of BMW’s lineup from the last few years belongs on this list. However, the BMW XM’s starting price of $160,000 and beaver-Esque looks didn’t help keep the SUV off the list.
BMW’s XM has a plug-in hybrid powertrain with 644 horsepower and a super luxe interior. The XM kicks off a whole new generation of vehicles for next year, which sounds pretty dismal from a design standpoint. Edmunds says the 2023 XM has “looks only a mother could love.”
Based on the original X5 SUV from back in 1999, the XM could have gone any number of ways. Unfortunately, it went nowhere good. The European automaker has been out to lunch the last few years and apparently is still dining somewhere.
Estimated Price: $159,995
