Kia’s Forte is one of the Korean automaker’s best sellers in America. Sandwiched between the Rio subcompact and the midsize K5, it stands out for its handsome styling and equally attractive starting MSRP. As parent company Hyundai Motors is set to release an all-new Sonata for the coming model year, many are wondering about the 2024 Kia Forte. Nothing is set in stone, but the mechanically-similar corporate cousin could get the following three updates.

1. Revised styling

Kia’s Forte received a slightly more aggressive front fascia two years ago. But the Hyundai Sonata is gaining a full-width “Seamless Horizon Lamp” LED lighting signature on the front for next year. Given Kia’s push to compete with Toyota’s racier designs, the Forte could go futuristic. The DRL could give the 2024 Kia Forte an innovative Tron look.

Otherwise, there will likely be subtle changes to the rest of the car’s exterior. For instance, Kia could add even more sharp edges in the styling around the front, sides, and rear.

2. More tech features

Hyundai will begin employing a new Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) feature for the Sonata, so expect it in the 2024 Kia Forte. RSPA enables drivers to park the vehicle and exit parking spots by remotely reversing and forwarding with a “smart key” from outside the vehicle. Moreover, a new rear occupant alert will ensure children aren’t forgotten in the back, a growing feature seen on sedans in the segment.

Much like Toyota, “next level” over-the-air updates may come to the Kia car. Such will allow Forte owners to save time from going into dealerships for software fixes. Moreover, continuous wireless updates can provide drivers with real-time traffic information. If the feature is offered, it’ll likely be exclusive to the top-tier GT-Line and GT trim levels.

3. A possible engine loss

Despite the welcome additions, Kia could be taking something quite important away from the Forte. For the 2024 model year, Hyundai dropped the peppy 1.6-liter turbo-four from the Sonata’s engine lineup. Therefore, Forte fans wait with bated breath to see if the top-of-the-line GT’s Gamma-series powerplant is discontinued.

Base Fortes have a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter making 147 horsepower and 132 pounds-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is mated with a slightly unrefined continuously variable automatic transmission. In the spicy engine, drivers have a choice of a paddle-shifted seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a good ol’ six-speed manual. Either does well in putting the engine’s 201 horsepower and 195 pounds-feet of torque to the road through the front wheels.

Kia hasn’t released the 2024 Forte’s price, nor have they even released photos. If the compact sedan receives the aforementioned upgrades, its starting MSRP will likely be a couple of thousand dollars more.

Currently, the Kia Forte begins at $19,690 in the base, increasing to $20,190 in the LXS. For the sportier variants, the GT-Line and GT start at $21,890 and $24,390, respectively. And the six-speed manual is a $700 optional extra on the range-topping GT.
