3 women and a child kicked off a Spirit Airlines flight for their clothing, ‘felt like criminals’
Commercial flight is a volatile space in today’s travel landscape. From “luggage rage” to inadequate accommodations for disabled passengers, even avid travelers are dreading their next flights. It only gets worse when you hear about cases like the two women booted from a Spirit Airlines airplane for inadequate clothing. Especially when the “inadequately clothed” passengers wore crop tops, attire many people consider far from scandalous.
3 adults and a child are angry after Spirit Airlines staff kicked them off a flight with no refund for their attire
Spirit Airlines operates many affordable flights from one corner of the country to another. One such route is from Los Angeles, California (LAX) to New Orleans, Louisiana (MSY). It’s a rather routine flight, typically under four hours. Unfortunately for two passengers, the LAX to MSY flight was anything but typical travel.
California natives Tara Kehidi and Teresa Araujo removed their sweaters, citing no climate control in the airplane’s cabin prior to takeoff. Shortly after they removed their top layer of clothing, the two were approached by a flight attendant.
According to ABC7 Chicago, he ordered the two women to “put something on.” Incidentally, the two passengers were reportedly frustrated. “We were wearing crop tops… just like a little bit of stomach showing.”
The two passengers then questioned the Spirit Airlines flight attendant. “Oh, can we see a dress code? Like, is there a policy that says we can’t wear crop tops on the plane?” To some, the question may seem like an instigation. To others, the mere effort of singling out the two for crop tops seems like an abuse of power.
Furthermore, Carla Hager, another crop-top-clad frustrated passenger, felt for the Kehidi and Araujo. “If they’re kicking you off the flight, then they’re also going to have to kick me and my toddler off of the flight.”
Unfortunately for the three women and the toddler, Spirit Airlines crew members ejected them from the flight. Furthermore, none of the three passengers received a refund.
