When it comes to luxury SUVs, the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace is a competitive option thanks to a price cut. That said, the EV segment is crammed with equally competitive models, including the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge. So how does the Jaguar stack up? Here’s a look at four advantages the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace has over the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge.

1. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace has better range than the Volvo XC40 Recharge

Range is one of the most important aspects to consider in an EV. According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace gets a good amount of range for an SUV. This small crossover can go 253 miles on a full charge — a significant improvement over earlier models.

The I-Pace faced plenty of issues and bugs when it came out in 2018, and that model could only get 234 miles on a single charge. But thanks to the 2022 I-Pace’s range of 253 miles, it outperforms the XC40 Recharge, which can go 223 miles. That’s a difference of 30 miles. 

2. Jaguar offers a better warranty

In addition to offering more range, Jaguar boasts better warranty coverage. The I-Pace has a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Additionally, the Jaguar’s electric components have coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles, and Jaguar provides complimentary maintenance for five years or 60,000 miles. 

In comparison, the XC40 Recharge has a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and a four-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty. Both are less than what Jaguar offers. Like the I-Pace, the XC40 Recharge’s battery components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. However, Volvo offers only three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance. That’s a much worse complimentary maintenance plan than Jaguar’s. 

3. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace has more standard torque 

Both EVs come with all-wheel drive as standard, and both have two electric motors as standard. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace’s electric motors produce 394 hp and 512 pound-feet of torque, while the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge’s electric motors make 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque. That means the XC40 Recharge has 8 hp more than the I-Pace, but the Jaguar boasts 26 lb-ft of torque more than the Volvo.

This torque difference pays dividends for the Jaguar’s acceleration. The two EVs take the same amount of time to go from 0 to 60 mph — 4.3 seconds — but the I-Pace can hit higher speeds faster than the Volvo.

According to Car and Driver, the I-Pace takes 10.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 mph, while the XC40 Recharge needs 10.9 seconds. The I-Pace also has a slightly faster quarter-mile in C/D testing, and its top speed is higher, too, at 128 mph, compared with the XC40 Recharge’s 113 mph top speed.

4. The I-Pace has more battery capacity

Last, the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace has more battery capacity than the Volvo XC40 Recharge: 90-kWh versus 78-kWh. That’s a 12-kWh difference. Despite boasting a greater battery capacity, the I-Pace can still recharge quickly, especially at a DC fast-charging station. It takes 40 minutes to reach an 80% charge with DC fast charging.
