You’re in luck if you’re looking for a new car with an all-wheel drive and a manual transmission. While driving with an automatic transmission is easier, a manual transmission puts you in charge of the car and leads to lower repair costs and, usually, better gas mileage. Below are four all-wheel drive cars with manual transmissions coming in 2023.

2023 Porsche 911

Starting at $107,550, the 2023 Porsche 911 is a work of art and engineering. It has twin-turbo flat-six engines that provide 473 horsepower. However, its performance isn’t the only notable thing about the car. A flat-six engine is also found in some motorcycles, but there are three cylinders on either side of the crankshaft.

The all-wheel drive is available for 911 models, and the Targa model only comes with an all-wheel drive. The Targa trim is among the models with a manual transmission with 8 transmission speeds. It offers 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. For those who like a tactile experience, the interior is a mix of knobs, buttons, and touch-screen controls, mostly moving away from analog instruments.

2023 Subaru Impreza

Those who get the 2023 Subaru Impreza can choose a manual or continuously variable automatic transmission. The manual transmission wasn’t a favorite among Car and Driver testers as they found it imprecise, notchy, and needed constant attention to keep it performing as high as possible. The all-wheel drive comes standard, and the car has plenty of safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2023 Impreza 5-door manages 31 mpg highway / 24 mpg city and 26 mpg combined. The hatchback with manual transmission is the least fuel-efficient model. While drivers might not care for the unimpressive fuel efficiency, the interior more than makes up for it with the intuitive climate control system, ample legroom, simple controls, and easy-to-read gauges. The rear seat folds away, offering additional cargo space if you need it.

2023 Toyota GR Corolla

All models of the Toyota GR Corolla come with adjustable all-wheel, and the six-speed manual transmission offers 300 horsepower, and the Core and Circuit Edition trims offer 273 lb-ft of torque. The base trim, the Core, has a rear spoiler, gloss black alloy wheels, and a six-speaker audio system.

The safety features include automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, road sign assist, and more. The GR Corolla starts at about $37,000, and the number of people it seats depends on the trim. The Core and Circuit editions seat five, while the Morizo Edition only has enough seating for two people.

2023 Volkswagen Golf R

The Volkswagen Golf R offers 315 horsepower and adds an all-wheel drive with a drift model, allowing the car to distribute the 310 lb-ft of torque to a rear axle. It has six selectable drive modes, with sport, race, and drift being among them; the driver presses the “R” button on the steering wheel to activate.

The Golf R has touch-sensitive controls, configurable layouts, and a digital gauge cluster. The car also has stainless-steel pedals, impressive cargo space, and front seats wrapped in Nappa leather. Nappa leather is high-quality leather that undergoes a process to make it softer and more pliable.

Whether you’re looking for a performance car like the Porsche 911 or a fun car with an affordable option like the Toyota GR Corolla, there’s something out there for everyone. Be sure to check out each of the all-wheel drive cars with manual transmissions to find which one fits you best, whether you need extra legroom, extra cargo space, or something in-between.
