4 Cars That Saw the Biggest Increase in Sales for 2022
New cars had a few rocky years, but the supply is finally making a comeback on the dealership lots. So, that means sales figures will follow, and in some cases, it already has. Four models saw a pretty significant increase in car sales in 2022. Which ones are they, and how much did the purchases actually improve?
1. Toyota Corolla Cross
The most surprising vehicle on this list is the Toyota Corolla Cross because you’d think the car with the most sales (year-to-date) would be flashier, luxurious, or popular on the off-road trail. Instead, with little to it aesthetic-wise. From 2021 to Dec. 1st, 2022, sales went up 1,278.80%. That’s about 47,000 units more purchased this year over last year’s 3,700.
The Corolla Cross offers 31 mpg on city roads and 33 mpg when traveling on the highway. You’ll also get Toyota’s excellent reliability scores. Pricing for the Toyota Corolla Cross begins at $22,195 for the base model and can go as high as 26,325 (before adding packages and add-ons).
2. Ford Maverick
The first pickup on the list is the Ford Maverick, which saw an 847.59% increase in sales over the last year. From November 2021 to the end of the year saw just over 7,000 purchases, but this year, up to December, there’s been over 68,000 units sold. We probably see more sales with this truck due to its affordability.
The Maverick is the only pickup on the market currently available for a price under the $25,000 MSRP mark. This Ford starts at $22,195 for the XL trim. It also offers a hybrid version, which gets you approximately 42 mpg on city roads and 33 mpg when on the highway.
3. Hyundai Santa Cruz
The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the second pickup on the list to have a big sales increase. Over the year, this truck saw a 397.33% boost in purchases. It went from 6,600 at the end of last year to almost 33,000 this year. This is a relatively new pickup since it was first released in 2022.
It’s not all that surprising to see the increase in popularity since this model can tow up to 5,000 lbs if you opt for the 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. It’s also available for an affordable price, which begins at just over $25,000 for the base trim.
4. Ford Bronco
The last vehicle on this list with the most significant increase in sales over the previous year is the Ford Bronco. It saw a boost of 312.47% in purchases. At the end of last year, the Bronco saw almost 26,000 in sales, but this year the number jumped to 106,000. Its popularity is mostly in part due to the newness of the refreshed nameplate.
Ford continues to make little changes to the model as time passes, including its exterior paint color list. As for price, you can expect to pay around $31,000 for the base two-door and $35,000 to start for the base four-door 2023 model.
The case of the Toyota GR86
As an honorable mention, we’ll include the Toyota GR86, which saw a 556,700% increase. However, this is due to the limited number of sales it saw at the end of 2021, which was just two purchases, according to GoodCarBadCar. So far this year, though, the model has seen over 11,000 sales.
The 2022 model year is proving to be a pretty significant year for some vehicles. At least for the Ford Bronco, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Ford Maverick. These four saw the highest percentages in sales over the last 12 months.
