Over the years, the pickup truck has transformed from a low-frills workhorse to a luxurious family hauler. This trend has seen most pickup trucks ditch the standard long-bed body style for a shorter bed to accommodate four-door crew cabs. Seating for five with a full-sized backseat is appealing but leaves much to be desired regarding cargo space. Indeed, some trucks lose as much as half their bed space, making hauling loads over six feet long impossible.

2023 Chevy Silverado 1500: 8.18-foot bed
The Chevy Silverado 1500 offers an attractive selection of configurations. They include a double cab with a standard bed, a crew cab with a short bed, a crew cab with a standard bed, and — most important for this list — a regular cab with a long bed. The last configuration is the cheapest, starting at $36,300, but coming with an impressive 8.18-foot bed, giving you the possibility of hauling loads slightly over eight feet in length.
The Silverado offers two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Engine options are a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and an available 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
2023 GMC Sierra 1500: 8.18-foot bed
The GMC Sierra 1500 with a regular cab and a long box is a great option if you want a full-size pickup truck with impressive styling and luxury not typically found on pickup trucks. The Sierra is essentially the same truck as the Silverado but with extra luxury flair and badging. The Sierra’s interior has higher-quality materials than the Silverado’s cab. According to J.D. Power, the Sierra also has a higher dependability score than the Silverado.
The regular-cab, long-box GMC Sierra has the same impressive 8.18-foot bed, giving this truck enough bed space for lengthy items. Additionally, the Sierra offers two engine options — a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder and a 5.3 EcoTec3 V8 — and two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
2023 Ford F-150: 8.13-foot bed
If you prefer Ford trucks, you’re in luck. The Blue Oval makes various models with beds measuring at least eight feet long. In addition, the Ford F-150 offers three cab styles. There’s Regular, a standard single cab with a front seat; Super Cab, a front-and-back-seat configuration with half-sized rear passenger doors; and SuperCrew, offering full-sized front and rear seats.
The Ford F-150 offers an 8.13-foot bed on the Regular Cab XL and XLT trims. The XL is the base model, which comes standard with a 2.7-liter V6 engine. Additionally, a 5.0-liter V8 engine and a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine are offered as options. The XLT trim adds chrome accents, upgraded lighting, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.
Where the Ford F-150 gets ahead of the competition is in the Super Cab category. GM’s options have only a single cab with an extended-bed configuration, but the F-150 comes with a back seat. Both the XL and XLT offer a long-bed Super Cab configuration, but a new trim is added to the list. The F-150 Lariat adds leather trim, a 12-inch touchscreen, and Zone Lighting, illuminating the area around the truck for working at night. The Lariat also rides on 20-inch carbonized gray wheels.
2023 Toyota Tundra: 8.10-foot bed
The dependable lineup of Toyota Tundra models offers a few options for a full-size truck bed. The Tundra has many possible configurations, but the SR base model and SR5 trim have an 8.1-foot bed.
The SR is a well-equipped base model that includes a smart key system with push-button start and remote keyless entry. Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto are also standard. Meanwhile, the SR5 upgrades the base model by adding 18-inch alloy wheels, towing and hauling driving modes, and a power rear window.
Both Tundra trim levels pack a standard 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine (no V8 options available). The Tundra aligns with the Ford F-150 lineup in the cab configuration. However, the Tundra offers a long bed in standard single-cab and double-cab configurations, which can seat five passengers.
With all these automakers offering durable long-bed pickup options, it’s hard to go wrong with any of these trucks.
