Fortunately, we spent a week with the Toyota RAV4 TRD Off Road and narrowed down a few pros and cons to help you decide if it’s the right trim level for you.

Pro: The 2022 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off Road is ready for the trails

The 2022 Toyota RAV TRD Off Road is well-suited for the trails with its TRD suspension and multi-terrain select feature. That feature allows you to choose between different driving modes and change the settings on the Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system. It’s pretty fancy stuff, and what’s even better is that the TRD trim comes with 18-inch matte-black TRD wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires to get you through the rough stuff.

Pro: The RAV4 TRD has a comfortable interior

The RAV4 TRD Off Road trim comes with a SofTex faux-leather interior and power-adjustable front seats. There’s plenty of room in the first and second row and rear-seat passenger even have their own vents. Overall, the RAV4’s interior is a comfortable place to spend time in.

Pro: There’s plenty of cargo room

When it comes to cargo room, the Toyota RAV4 provides plenty of space. There are 37.6 cubic feet of space with the rear seatbacks folded up and 69.8 when they’re folded down. In case you’re wondering, that’s enough room to fit a standard-sized mountain bike, which definitely comes in handy.

Pro: The RAV4 TRD Off Road can achieve good fuel economy numbers

The Toyota RAV4 TRD Off Road has the same 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine as all of the other trim levels, but it gets slightly worse fuel economy due to the AWD system. According to Toyota, the RAV4 TRD can get up to 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. In our week of testing, we were able to achieve 30 mpg in mixed driving conditions, which is pretty good.

Con: The TRD suspension can make the ride feel stiff at times

While the aforementioned TRD suspension is great for getting the RAV4 up and over trails and moderate obstacles, it can feel a little rough at slower driving speeds. However, it’s not exactly jarring and the ride is still comfortable at highway speeds.

Con: The engine could use a little more power

The 2.5-liter engine that powers the RAV4 produces 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It’s enough power for getting around town and onto the highway. However, it would be nice to have a little power to get the crossover moving along quicker, especially in off-road situations.

Con: The Toyota RAV4 TRD’s price can creep up quickly

Overall, the price as tested was $40,650, which includes the $1,215 destination charge. That is to say that when opting for this trim level, don’t be surprised if the price creeps up to the $40,000 range when all of the option boxes are checked.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off Road is a good trim to pick

If you’re the type of buyer that wants the comfort and convenience that the 2022 Toyota RAV4 has to offer but needs to go off road sometimes, then the TRD Off Road trim is the one to get. Just note that it can get pricey. And if you don’t need all of that all-terrain equipment, then you may want to opt for a lower trim.
