4 of the Rarest Cars on the Planet In 2023
It’s always interesting to see the rarest and most desirable cars in any given circumstance. We’ve certainly done our fair share of highlighting rare cars here, but it’s hard to cover all of them. So, in that light, let’s take a look at four of the rarest cars on the planet. In this case, each of these models is, at most, one of only two ever made.
Shelby Cobra Super Snake
If you’re a car fan, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the Shelby Cobra. There are, however, a handful of variants of the Cobra that Shelby manufactured in the 1960s. The rares of the rare is known as the Super Snake. Hot Cars reports that only two of them were ever built.
Interestingly enough, Shelby built one of the Super Snake Cobras for Bill Cosby. With its twin-supercharged 427 V8, the car made an astonishing 825 horsepower and could allegedly surpass 200 miles per hour. Cobra Authority reports that Cosby drove it once and returned it because it was too uncontrollable.
Unfortunately, its unruly nature would eventually be the cause of its destruction. Tony Maxey, the buyer of Cosby’s former Super Snake, lost control of it and drove it off the cliff, killing himself and the car in the process.
The surviving Super Snake (chassis CSX3015) sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2007 for a whopping $5.5 million.
Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita
Iconic hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg built the Trevita (which loosely translates to “three whites” in English) to showcase its incredible multicolor carbon fiber. The Trevita was really the first time any form of multicolor carbon fiber was used in the bodywork of a road car, and its meticulously aligned carbon weave truly makes it a masterful work of art and patience.
Additionally, it has a 1,018 horsepower 4.7-liter turbocharged V8 and can sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.1 seconds. If you want one, though, you’re out of luck. Only two were made, and they sold for about $4.8 million each. One went to prizefighter Floyd Mayweather, but he sold it with Mecum in 2017.
Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé
The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé is, at the time of writing, the most expensive car ever sold.
Mercedes-Benz built the Uhlenhaut Coupé to compete in the 1955 Carrera Panamericana. However, the race was canceled after the Le Mans disaster in 1955. So, both of these purpose-built racecars remained intact and unused.
In 2022, the Uhlenhaut Coupé sold for an absolutely unheard-of $143 million for charity. It set the record for the most expensive car ever sold by nearly $100 million.
Ferrari Testarossa Spyder, a true one-of-one rarity
Finally, the Ferrari Testarossa Spyder is about as rare as rare can get. Ferrari built only one Testarossa Spyder for the leader of Fiat, Gianni Agnelli.
After this, Ferrari never produced another Testarossa Spyder. Though some aftermarket companies have made some, this is the one and only true Ferrari-made example.
