4 Reasons You Should Skip a Used Honda Civic Type R and Buy a Civic Sport Touring Instead
There’s no denying that the Honda Civic Type R is a great choice if you want practicality and performance. However, it’s quite expensive on the used market. A better choice could be a used Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring as it offers more practicality and comfort with decent performance. Here are a few reasons, you may be better off buying the Civic Sport Touring over a Civic Type R.
1. The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is much cheaper than the Civic Type R
It’s no secret that used car prices have increased astronomically in the past year and the Honda Civic Type R had increased in value considerably. Of course, prices for the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring have risen as well. But it’s still far cheaper than its pocket rocket stablemate.
According to a nationwide search on CarGurus, there are 2019-2021 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring examples priced from $18,000 up to $30,000. Again, that’s a lot for a Civic right now, but the times are a little wonky. Also, used Civic Type R examples are selling for around $40,000 to $50,000 nationwide, so the Sport Touring is definitely a better value despite its elevated pricing.
2. If you prefer subtle styling, the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring is a better choice
Take one look at the 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R and you’ll either love or hate its boy-racer styling. Take a look at the Civic Sport Touring and you’ll likely enjoy its more subtle and slightly elegant styling. In that case, if you prefer the latter, you know which Civic is the better pick.
3. The Civic Hatchback is more comfortable for the daily drive
The Civic Type R’s sporty suspension is great for tearing up a racetrack or tackling the tight corners on your favorite twisty road. However, it can be a little rough on normal roads, especially if you live in an area with lots of potholes. The Civic Sport Touring, on the other hand, soaks up road imperfections a little better and is more comfortable for daily driving.
Additionally, it is more comfortable to drive as it’s available with a CVT automatic transmission, in case you don’t drive a stick. But a six-speed manual transmission is available too.
4. The Honda Civic Hatchback is available with more luxury features
In addition to more comfortable driving dynamics, the Civic Sport Touring comes with a few luxurious features that the Civic Type R doesn’t. Some of them include heated front and rear seats, a 540-watt sound system, and other convenient features like a remote engine start.
A used Honda Civic Sport Touring could be a better option than a Civic Type R
If you’re in the market for a used Honda Civic and are salivating over the thought of a Type R, then you may want to reconsider your options. Of course, the Civic Type R is great if you want an all-out street racer that’s practical, but a Civic Sport Touring could be a better choice if you really only need a commuter car to drive every day.
