General Motors (GM) pulled the Chevrolet Impala after the 2020 model year as the company focused on its larger offerings. Some criticized the Impala’s seemingly bland nature, built with a “that’ll do” attitude. However, it stood out in the segment for four reasons. It may even be one of the best used sedans on sale.

Reason #1: Ample room for passengers and cargo 

The Chevrolet Impala offers a roomy cabin for five-member families with generous passenger space in both rows. U.S. News says the rear has a “stellar” seating arrangement, configuring three adults comfortably. The Impala’s wealth of headroom and legroom is also a welcome sight for taller drivers and passengers.

Behind the rear seats, the Impala boasts one of the largest trunks in the segment. Its 18.8 cubic feet can also be extended with standard split-folding rear seats. Since the rear seatbacks can fold level with the trunk floor, the Impala has small SUV-size cargo space.

Reason #2: Great standard entertainment tech

Each trim level Impala—LT or Premier—comes with an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen. The interface features sharp visuals and quick response times. At a time when complaints are widespread about fiddly touchscreens, the Chevrolet Impala has a touch of tradition. Easy-to-reach, easy-to-use physical buttons and knobs serve as additional controls.

Base Impalas come equipped with a six-speaker stereo with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. They also have three USB ports and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Premier trim level features an 11-speaker premium Bose sound system, navigation, and wireless charging capabilities.

Reason #3: Fantastic ride quality

The Impala’s supple ride makes it one of the more relaxed large sedans. Competitors may offer sportier suspensions and more aggressive powertrains, but the Impala is set on serving as a comfy cruiser. Drivers wouldn’t want to spoil their passengers’ view out of the dual-pane sunroof. Yet, the Chevrolet Impala is no slouch.

Under the hood, a 305-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 and a six-speed auto propel the front wheels, not athletically but confidently. Nimble steering also makes the Impala a more engaging experience.

Reason #4: It’s quite affordable

When the 2020 Chevrolet Impala went on sale, the LT fetched $31,620 and the Premier $36,720, Cars.com shows. Each was below average in price for the large car segment, but they’re even more affordable three years afterward.

Edmunds lists hundreds of reasonably-priced, well-maintained, used 2020 Chevrolet Impalas on sale. For those in the 50,000-60,000-mile range, the price is roughly one-third of its original MSRP. Potential buyers can easily get a Premier trim level in the aforementioned mile range for just over $20,000.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Impala a good car?

Although some complain that GM cut a few corners when building the later-year Impalas, that doesn’t mean they’re dangerous or undesirable. The 2020 Chevrolet Impala is soothing, spacious, stylish, and can haul much more than one may think. It’s an excellent pick for families or a teenager’s first car. The Premier’s backup camera will calm any nervous parent’s mind.

Luckily, there’s not much of a price difference between the LT and Premier anymore. Therefore, a top-of-the-line 2020 Chevrolet Impala could bring great value for money.
