The Chevy Bolt EUV is getting the axe

Chevrolet’s Bolt EUV is an electric subcompact SUV that made headlines because of its affordable starting price. It starts at just $27,800. So, why is General Motors brand Chevrolet dumping the cheapest subcompact electric SUV?

On paper, Chevy’s Bolt EUV is easily one of the best electric vehicle deals on the market. It has great driving range for the money (247 miles). The 2023 Bolt EUV has decent standard features, and upper trim level models offer even more tech and creature comforts.

Chevrolet hasn’t publicly disclosed a specific reason for discontinuing the original Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, but all signs point to reliability issues. Both nameplates were recalled following several Bolt EV fires. The Chevy Bolt EV became involved in one of GM’s largest recalls in years.

Though Chevy has rereleased both models with updates following the recall, it took an extreme hit in terms of reputation. To remedy this, GM is scrapping both nameplates entirely and starting over. Chevy has announced that it’s releasing a new version of the Bolt EV. A new version of the Bolt EUV is possible following the discontinuation of the current iteration.

Ford’s midsize SUV is biting the dust

Several brands produce competitive midsize SUV models. The Blue Oval isn’t necessarily one of them. The 2023 Ford Edge isn’t exactly a hit among consumers. It’s easily overshadowed by rivals, which is part of the reason why Ford is tossing the nameplate.

American automaker Ford has big plans for the future. The antiquated Edge nameplate doesn’t fit those plans. So, out with the old and in with the new. Will the Ford Edge be missed?

The Mazda CX-9 is being replaced

Mazda’s midsize SUV, unlike the Ford Edge, does have a solid fan base. The CX-9 isn’t the best in its segment but is certainly a competitor. So, what gives Mazda?

Thanks to models like the Kia Telluride, midsize three-row SUVs have become much more popular over the last few years. Subsequently, several brands are releasing new midsize three-row SUVs.

Mazda’s new CX-90 three-row SUV will compete with the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and Toyota’s new Grand Highlander. The CX-9 midsize SUV is getting the boot to make room for a newer, more competitive midsize SUV that has the space to rival models like the Telluride.

Mazda’s subcompact electric SUV is a fail

Mazda produces great SUV models. That being said, its electric SUV is objectively a failure, and the reason behind its lack of success is apparent in its specs. The MX-30 EV electric subcompact SUV only gets 100 miles of driving range on a full charge. This range makes it one of the least convenient EVs to own on the market.

Due to its noticeably insufficient range, consumers have turned their noses at Mazda’s electric SUV offering. So, it’s headed for the scrap heap. Mazda has the potential to make a great electric SUV, it’ll just need much more driving range than the MX-30 EV.
