We like big trucks and cannot lie, so we’re excited about our week with the new GMC Sierra 1500. This beast of a truck doesn’t disappoint, and we have a few takeaways from our first drive to share. See why the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is an epic truck.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is an excellent truck to consider. It’s comfortable, agile, and strong. It has a smooth ride and comes with plenty of modern tech for towing and getting the job done.

We’re spending the week with the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, so this truck does have a lot of bells and whistles compared to the competition. We had the Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition, not the top-spec Capstone trim, so it may not compare apples to apples.

Things like power-deploying side steps, an adaptive suspension, and trailer blind-spot assist can make you feel spoiled. But our full review will include what’s good and bad about this truck!

1. The GMC Sierra has so many camera views

The 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is extremely easy to maneuver, thanks to multiple camera views. They are accurate and have a wide field of view to help you avoid obstacles and other vehicles.

There are up to 15 different camera views. You can see the truck bed, the trailer hitch, what’s in front of you, what’s around your front tires, what’s around your rear, your camera, and more. The extra visibility is so convenient.

2. General Motors SuperCruise is nice

We got to test the new SuperCruise semi-automated system, and it’s pretty neat. A green light flashes on the steering wheel when SuperCruise is available. Then you press a button on the steering wheel to engage the feature.

From there, sit back and relax. Just keep your eyes on the road, or the system will warn you. You get three chances before it disengages. It doesn’t allow for distracted driving and feels safe. Although, we would be lying if we said we weren’t nervous at first.

You can adjust the distance between your 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and the vehicle in front of you. You can also adjust your speed with the steering wheel, and the system will change lanes for you. It’s really convenient during long stretches of the highway and in stop-and-go traffic.

3. The GMC Sierra MultiPro Tailgate is impressive

We took the time to use the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s MultiPro Tailgate, and it can do a lot! There are corner steps on the rear bumper to provide easy access to the bed, but the tailgate also turns into a step and includes a rail to hold on to. According to GM Authority, it holds up to 375 lbs.

You can use it to extend the length of the bed for larger cargo items. You can also move it out of the way for closer access to the bed. Also, a section will fold out to create a smooth work surface.

Best of all, the Denali Ultimate includes a built-in speaker system in the midgate. Plug in your device with the USB outlet to play your favorite songs at the tailgate, at work, or wherever.

4. The Sierra Denali is agile

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is extremely easy to maneuver. It has a 22.35 to 25.35-foot turning radius based on the configuration you choose. We’re impressed by its ability to turn into tight parking spaces and to make a U-turn without having to put it in reverse.

You can make a three-point turn on narrow gravel roads without your placing your tires in the mud. Also, it doesn’t turn into an awkward six-point turn, and you don’t have to worry about hitting trees because the camera views are extremely helpful.

We’re still learning about the GMC Sierra, so stay tuned for updates. We’re testing it in the city, in crowded traffic, on country roads, and off the pavement.
