With production delays and parts shortages plaguing the automotive industry, finding a new SUV on your local dealer lot is more challenging than it used to be. This situation has led many people to shop at dealerships offering top-rated used SUVs. So, let’s explore four of the best 2021 used SUV models.

2021 Buick Envision

J.D. Power ranked the 2021 Buick Envision compact SUV above the other 2021 SUVs on its list based on the high scores it earned from its owners. After owning the Envision for at least 90 days, owners expressed satisfaction with the “vehicle’s screens and displays,” the cabin’s quiet ride, and the navigation system’s ease of use. However, some flaws that owners reported include a lack of cargo capacity, the inability to get all of the features they want in the vehicle, and difficulty loading and unloading cargo compared to the competition.

The 2021 Buick Envision features a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Fuel economy ratings range from 22 mpg to 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg to 31 mpg on the highway. Prices for a used 2021 Envision range from around $30,000 to $48,000, depending on trim level and the vehicle’s condition.

2021 Nissan Murano

The 2021 Nissan Murano midsize SUV ranks below the Envision. Owners report satisfaction with Murano’s fuel economy, powerful engine, and voice assistance system. However, owners reported less satisfaction with feeling safe in an accident, cargo carrying ability, and handling in slippery road conditions.

The 2021 Murano employs a 260-hp V6 that gets 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. A continuously variable transmission with overdrive and front-wheel or all-wheel drive round out the Murano’s performance setup. Used 2021 Murano prices range from $30,000 to $46,000, depending on trim level and vehicle condition.

2021 BMW X4

Tied for second place among the best 2021 SUV models is the 2021 BMW X4, listed as a “compact premium SUV.” Owners praise the X4’s “ability to conveniently store personal items,” navigation systems, and personalized vehicle setup. However, they found the second-row seats uncomfortable and more challenging to access compared to other luxury SUVs. Additionally, owners were not impressed with the X4’s ride comfort.

Engine choices include either a 248-hp turbocharged four-cylinder or a 382-hp turbocharged inline-six-cylinder. Fuel economy ranges from 21 mpg to 23 mpg in the city and 27 mpg to 29 mpg on the highway. While those numbers are good, the X4 requires premium unleaded gasoline, increasing its operating cost compared to other SUVs on this list. Nevertheless, the X4’s eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD provide an excellent driving experience. Prices for a used 2021 BMW X4 range from around $56,000 to over $70,000, depending on trim level, options, and vehicle condition.

2021 Chevy Blazer

The 2021 Chevrolet Blazer midsize SUV is last on our list but only two points behind the leader. Owners give the 2021 Blazer model high marks for its powerful engine, user-friendly voice assistance, and fuel economy. On the other hand, the Blazer scored low for the feeling of safety it provides in the event of an accident, handling on slick roads, and the quality of interior materials.

Three engine options include a 193-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 230-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter I4, and a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6. The Blazer’s drivetrain features a nine-speed automatic transmission and your choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive, except the 2.5-liter version only comes in front-wheel drive. Fuel economy varies depending on drivetrain configuration, ranging from 19 mpg to 22 mpg in the city and 26 mpg to 29 mpg on the highway. With its multiple drivetrain and trim level options, prices for a used 2021 Chevrolet Blazer range from $28,000 on the low end to over $52,000 for a fully loaded model in pristine condition.

Which used 2021 SUV model is the best choice?

Considering price, fuel economy, and overall customer satisfaction, the top-ranked 2021 Buick Envision is a good choice for those whose life fits in a compact SUV. However, larger families or those requiring more space should look at the midsize 2021 Nissan Murano midsize SUV.
