4 Ways the 2022 Tesla Model Y Is Superior to the Volvo C40 Recharge
Volvo is one of the many automakers rushing to join the EV revolution, and one of the Swedish company’s latest electrified offerings is the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge. That being said, Tesla is still the most popular EV maker, and the Tesla Model Y is a highly capable electric crossover SUV. Here are four ways the 2022 Tesla Model Y beats the Volvo C40 Recharge.
1. The 2022 Tesla Model Y has much better driving range than the Volvo C40 Recharge
Range is one of the most essential features of an EV, and the 2022 Tesla Model Y has much better electric driving range than the C40 Recharge. According to Edmunds, the Model Y Long Range trim has a 75-kWh battery, allowing this trim to go 330 miles on a single charge. The Performance trim is a much faster car, but its range number drops to 303 miles.
In comparison, despite having a 78-kWh battery, the 2022 C40 Recharge has much less range than the Model Y. The Volvo’s battery allows the C40 Recharge to go 226 miles, and the automaker has yet to offer a longer-range option for this model. That means that even with the Performance trim, Model Y owners can get far better range from their Tesla than the Volvo.
2. The Tesla is a more fuel-efficient EV
The 2022 Model Y gets so much better range despite having a smaller battery pack because the Tesla is more efficient with its energy. The Model Y gets 122 MPGe on the Long Range trim and 111 MPGe on the Performance trim. In comparison, the C40 Recharge gets only 87 MPGe.
Another way to measure efficiency is with the kWh-per-100-miles number. The lower the number, the more efficient the car. The Model Y comes in at 28 kWh per 100 miles, while the C40 Recharge has 39 kWh per 100 miles. This efficiency difference means it’ll cost a Tesla owner less for electricity to go the same distance.
3. The Model Y is significantly lighter than the C40 Recharge
There are many reasons why the 2022 Tesla Model Y is more efficient than the Volvo C40 Recharge, and weight is one of them. According to Edmunds, the Model Y has a curb weight of about 4,400 pounds. In comparison, the C40 Recharge weighs 4,800 pounds.
That 400-pound difference allows the Model Y to be not only more efficient but also faster than the C40 Recharge. The Model Y can dash from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, while the C40 Recharge needs 4.7 seconds.
4. The 2022 Tesla Model Y also has far more cargo space than the C40 Recharge
Despite being lighter than the C40 Recharge, the Model Y actually has far better cargo capacity. The Tesla provides 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, while the Volvo offers only 14.5 cubic ft. That’s a difference of almost 20 cubic feet.
The Tesla Model Y’s advantage gets even bigger with the rear seats folded flat. It boasts a max cargo capacity of 76.2 cubic feet, according to Edmunds. In comparison, the C40 Recharge tops out at 48.7 cubic feet. That means the Tesla has 27.5 cubic feet more overall cargo space than the Volvo.
