Junkyards are some of the most fun places in the world for car nerds. There is always a feeling of possibility in the rusty piles of former family vans and first cars. We know what is most likely there, yet there is still that little feeling of excitement to find some buried treasure. A couple of years back, a YouTuber in Chicago happened to find a bit of junkyard SUV treasure in the form of a $400,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan. 

A Rolls-Royce Cullinan 

This not a car you see every day, certainly not in a junkyard. The Drive reports that YouTube person Samcrac was making a video of himself kicking around a junkyard in the Chicago area when he came across a super-low-mileage Rolls-Royce Cullinan looking pretty whopped. 

The Cullinan is the first SUV that Rolls-Royce ever made, and they tend to be worth a little bit of cash, as Rolls-Royces have been known to do. In fact, the starting price for one of these bad boys is a cool $345,000, but that is only the beginning. The only thing worse for a rich person than not buying a Rolls-Royce is buying one that looks like some other rich person’s Rolls. 

The customizing aspect of Rolls-Royce is a major component of what makes these cars noteworthy. Regardless of how flossed out you dress your Rolls, they all start life with a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. They also come with a full-time all-wheel-drive system. 

What was this specific one doing in the junkyard? 

I can only assume most Rolls-Royce don’t clock too many miles, given the typical nature of their usage. This Cullinan follows suit with only 3,000 miles on the clock. Although it is probably fairly common to see these cars with low miles, how did this one get so destroyed? 

You’ll see the car enter the video around the 14-minuet mark. It is sporting a custom paint job even though chunks of the front end are missing. The front passenger-side quarter panel is missing altogether, and the wheel and grille are pretty severely damaged as well. As shown in the video, the airbags didn’t deploy, and the wildly customized interior still looks sharp. Whoever ordered this Rolls-Royce Cullinan went to town on the custom spec sheet. 

The car’s orange and black color scheme is matched on the Cullinan’s interior with black leather seats with orange stitching to match the pin stripping on the exterior. To really make sure we all got the idea, the owner also got it set up on orange and black wheels to complete the look.  

What is going to happen to this junkyard dog? 

The junkyard where the YouTuber found this Rolls-Royce is actually a salvage/auction yard, meaning it is going to be sold at auction, most likely to folks who are looking for parts or a cheaper chance at rebuilding high-end stuff like this for a fraction of the cost of buying one new. The Drive says that the salvage yard that owns it, Copart says that last recorded highest bid was around the $90k mark.

This Cullinan has long since been sold, and hopefully, someone brought this costume beauty back to life for less than half of what the first owner paid. Stuntin’ on a budget is the best kind of stuntin’. If they didn’t restore it, I hope they at least took that massive engine and put it in something cool like a Miata.
