What is causing the 2022 Ford F-150 delay? 

Nearly 45,000 2022 Ford F-150 models might be facing a delay due to missing parts. As a result, incomplete trucks are being stored at the Kentucky Speedway. According to MotorTrend, a recent image from space shows the models piling up. 

Two photos were taken a month apart and display an increase in unfinished models that are just sitting pretty. The trucks are waiting on semiconductor chips, which are necessary for the production of crucial electronic components. 

Semiconductor chips are used in engines, as fuel-saving components, in the infotainment system, in safety features, in air conditioning features, seatbelts, and even stability systems. 

Some automotive makers cut features like rear AC controls and gas-saving features to build trucks faster. They were delivered to customers with the promise of being added later. 

The automotive industry is still being affected by the global pandemic, and it could be a while before things return to normal. 

Is Ford hurt by the F-150 delays? 

The 2022 Ford F-150 delays could cause a $1 billion loss as Ford struggles to complete trucks and get them to customers. Automakers are facing a decline in sales as they send out incomplete vehicles with the promise of adding chips later. 

Due to the high demand for some options like the Ford Maverick, order books are being closed early. The order banks closed five days after being opened due to a lack of supplies to build each model. 

The global supply chain is struggling with a lot more shortages that go beyond semiconductor chips. Ford is also short on rubber molding, seat foam, and aluminum. 

Plus, there’s a lack of transport companies to help move trucks. The surge in demand to get trucks from rail yards to companies or dealerships is too high. 

Let’s not forget about inflation, either. Supply companies are raising costs, making it more difficult to get equipment. 

Ford didn’t specify which suppliers raised prices, but we can speculate that it’s primarily related to electric vehicles. For example, pricing for the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning is skyrocketing. 

How long is the wait for a 2022 F-150? 

Typically, a factory order for the 2022 Ford F-150 would take about 10 weeks. But things aren’t exactly typical right now. Some people have been waiting for about five to six months for their new trucks to arrive. 

Because of the supply chain shortages, F-150 models may sit in the building phase for about 45 days. Custom models could take even longer to build. But this doesn’t mean that you’re out of luck. 

You can see if your local dealerships have any F-150 models in stock. However, due to a limited supply, they could have steep markups. But is paying more really worth cutting down the waiting time?
