How much does the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning cost?
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $61,869. This is for the entry-level model or the F-150 Lightning Pro. It just got a $4,000 increase from $57,869. That’s a massive increase but only displays a tiny increase from the past year.
Since 2022, the F-150 Lightning has gone up in price four times! Initially, the F-150 Lighting Pro started at $41,769, so it’s experienced about a $20,000 increase. Typically, trucks only go up in price by about a few hundred or thousand bucks.
The F-150 Lightning Lariat standard range model is increasing from $74,474 to $75,974, which is a $1,500 price hike. The Lightning Platinum is gaining a $1,200 increase from $96,874 to $98,074.
Reportedly, Ford is increasing prices as a response to supply chain issues as well as the current cost of materials and market factors. According to Car and Driver, this is the reason for the other three price hikes.
Can you order the 2023 F-150 Lightning?
Yes, the order books for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning are open. But you but make haste to lock in your reservation. The 2022 F-150 Lightning model sold out pretty quickly. Also, don’t be surprised by more increasing prices.
It’s unclear if reservations have price protection, so you may end up paying more for your electric Ford truck than expected. The increased costs are impacting commercial orders as well.
Also, forget trying to save with the F-150 Lightning Pro. It’s currently sold out for retail customers for the 2023 model year. Perhaps you can get one for 2024, but prices are subject to rapidly climb.
The waiting times for an F-150 Lightning are likely to last over a year. Despite efforts to ramp up F-150 Lightning production to 150,000 models, Ford is only expected to crank out 80,000 units in 2023.
Plus, Ford recently issued a stop-sale and stopped production for a few weeks to address a problem related to battery fires. But on a positive note, the problem was identified, and production is back on track.
2023 F-150 Lightning: What’s new?
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is primarily a carryover model, but the EPA-estimated range for the entry-level model increased from 230 miles to 240. The extended-range models have an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles.
With standard range models, you get 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. Upgrading to the extended-range models provides access to a larger battery pack that generates 580 hp and that same 775 lb-ft of torque.
The F-150 Lightning has an instant acceleration that can reach 60 mph in about 4.0 seconds, but the handling could be improved. The brakes are smooth and confident to easily handle the extra weight.
Increasing prices are starting to impact the value as rivals like the Chevy Silverado EV and Ram 1500 REV are expected to start with lower prices. Plus, Ford is already working on a new electric truck for 2025.
