Although it only began back in 2001, it feels like the Fast and the Furious franchise has been around forever. Filled to the brim with drool-worthy cars, the movies have always made us want to deck out our own vehicles with the coolest mods we can find to win street races of our own. It continues to do so with every new movie that is released. Until we finally do that, though, let’s look back at some of our favorite cars from the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Green Eclipse

The first street race car for Brian O’Connor, his lime green 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse has since become one of the most iconic cars of the franchise. Sure, it has the sentimentality of being from the first movie and being Brian’s first racing car, even though it met a less than great end, but it also had the specs to back it up. A powerful car to begin with, the added modifications made it an extremely powerful racing companion.

Toyota Supra Turbo

Another from the first movie, Brian’s 1994 Toyota Supra was the one he used to race Toretto at the end of the movie. With its 19-inch Dazzle Racing Rims and custom graphics, the look of this car is next-level. In the movie, they say that the modifications cost between $15,000-20,000, but in reality, it would have been more like $100,000. But who’s counting?

Mazda RX-7

Featured heavily in Tokyo Drift, Han Seoul-Oh’s 1997 Mazda RX-7 is one of the coolest looking cars in the movie. Although it met its match after racing through the streets of downtown Tokyo, it’s still fondly looked at as a fan favorite.

With award-winning modifications by Japanese automotive company VeilSide, this RX-7 looks a lot different than others because it has a wider body kit. They also beefed up the brake system and engine, giving it more power and making it sound like the beast it was.

Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R

Driven by Brian at the start of 2 Fast 2 Furious, the 1999 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R is one of the most recognized from the franchise. He continuously wins with this car, even using it to jump from a bridge.

However, everyone is then forced to flee when the cops show up and Brian gets shut down and the car gets impounded. The biggest modification to this Nissan Skyline was a twin turbocharger engine, which made it capable of up to 330 horsepower.

Dodge Charger R/T

Driven by Toretto regularly throughout the franchise, the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T was built by Dominic and his father when Dominic was young. Dominic later refused to drive the Charger after his father was killed, because he was afraid of it.

However, he’s forced to drive it in a pursuit in the first movie and we got to see the 900 horsepower engine in action, with Brian needing to bust out his nitrous oxide to keep up with the Charger. The iconic car is destroyed in Furious 7, after it rolls off of a cliff. It remains one of the most memorable of the whole franchise.

With such a huge fan base, the Fast and the Furious franchise will most likely be around for a long, long time. The loss of Paul Walker in 2013 makes a lot of the iconic cars from the earlier movies even more iconic and sentimental. Although things haven’t been the same without him, fans continue to flood the box office whenever a new movie comes out. The ninth installment, Fast & Furious 9 is expected to be released in May of 2020.
