If you’re still on the fence about going all-electric, a hybrid vehicle is a great place to start. They fuel up quickly with gas, but you still benefit from improved fuel economy. Even if you have a whole family to shuttle around, there’s likely a perfect hybrid car, SUV, or minivan for you. 

Thanks to soaring gas prices, you’re probably itching for a more fuel-efficient car. Here are the top five hybrid vehicles according to TrueCar.

1. Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

Boasting an EPA-estimated 38 mpg on city and highway roads, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is the most well-rounded choice on TrueCar’s list. This compact crossover’s surprisingly affordable price of $26,195 includes a big infotainment screen, a plush interior, and a turbocharged powertrain. Providing a 10-year standard hybrid warranty, the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid offers excellent value.

It’s available as a regular hybrid or PHEV, the latter providing 33 miles of electric range. Though every Tucson Hybrid comes with standard all-wheel drive, it lacks a dedicated off-roading trim. TrueCar‘s reviewers also wish this SUV had a higher towing capacity, but 2,000 pounds is decent for most drivers.

2. Toyota Sienna

Starting at $35,925, this seven-seat minivan can get 36 mpg during city and highway driving. In addition to being the most fuel-efficient model in its segment, the Toyota Sienna boasts an interior luxurious enough to be confused for a limousine, TrueCar says. And families looking for adventure will appreciate the Woodlands trim, complete with better ground clearance and standard roof racks.

Despite its family-cruiser appeal, the Toyota Sienna still has some minor flaws. With only 245 hp, it provides meager passing power, though it still handles like a much smaller car. Also, the second row can’t be folded down or removed, limiting its maximum cargo capacity.

3. Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is another affordable pick, starting at around $21,000 and delivering up to 50 mpg combined city/highway. Despite its compact sedan dimensions, both rows provide plenty of room, and the interior abounds with excellent features. 

Still, the Elantra Hybrid lacks a Wi-Fi hotspot, and all of the plastic interior surfaces reflect the car’s bargain price. It also doesn’t offer an optional hatchback body style like some rivals. The trunk has 14 cubic feet of space, but the opening is too small to load bulkier items easily.

4. Lexus NX Hybrid

To celebrate its 2022 redesign, the Lexus NX now has two hybrid powertrain options. The standard makes 239 hp, while the PHEV makes 302 hp and gets 37 miles of range. Both hybrid trims come with standard AWD and provide a peaceful ride. However, TrueCar warns that the NX never feels particularly sporty, even with the extra horsepower on the top-tier hybrid trim. 

But the NX Hybrid makes up for its performance shortcomings with a refreshed cabin design. Lexus added more upholstery color options and ambient lighting. Plus, the dual-screen infotainment system is a nice touch.

5. Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid gets 52 mpg city/highway combined, putting it ahead of its two biggest rivals. In addition, Hyundai cut out the weaker engine for 2022, leaving the Sonata with a peppy 192-hp four-cylinder/electric motor powertrain. This sedan still experiences a few performance hiccups, such as jerky brakes and rough transitions between gas and electric power.

However, it has an impressive range of intuitive technology options. The top trim even has a solar-powered roof to give the battery extra juice. Even though the backseat is a little cramped, the interior is comfortable and looks upscale for its $25,000 starting price.
