In terms of sedans, the Toyota Avalon has been one of the best options in its class for a long time. Like the Avalon’s smaller siblings, the Corolla and the Camry, Toyota has made many good model years of the full-size car. Here’s a look at the five best years for the Toyota Avalon.

2022 Toyota Avalon

According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Toyota Avalon continues its long tradition of being a very good car. It has an overall score of 90 out of 100, and it performed well in many areas. 

For example, the Avalon received a 5 out of 5 for its predicted owner satisfaction rating. Since it’s a Toyota, the Avalon’s predicted reliability score was also good, at a 4 out of 5. The Avalon is also very fuel-efficient, as it gets about 27 mpg combined. That said, a brand-new Avalon starts at about $36,000, and cheaper options are available.

2015 Toyota Avalon

One of the cheaper options available is the 2015 Toyota Avalon. It’s still a great car, as it has a reliability rating of 5 out of 5. On top of that, owners were delighted with their Avalon, with a 4 out of 5 in terms of its owner satisfaction rating.

Additionally, since the 2015 Avalon isn’t that old, its engine is similar to the latest Avalon. In fact, Consumer Reports said that the 2015 Avalon got about 25 mpg combined. That said, the 2015 Avalon is a much cheaper car than a brand-new Avalon, with a used model starting at about $17,000.

2012 Toyota Avalon

While the 2012 Toyota Avalon isn’t that much older than the 2015 version, it’s actually in a completely different generation. The 2012 Avalon was the last car in the model’s third generation, and it ended the era while being on top.

Consumer Reports says that the 2012 Avalon had a reliability rating of 5 out of 5, and its owner satisfaction rating is also a 5 out of 5. The 2012 Avalon is also equipped with a similar engine to the 2015 Toyota Avalon, so the 2012 model year still gets a 25 mpg combined rating. A used 2012 Avalon will start at about $13,000.

2009 Toyota Avalon

Another good Avalon is the 2009 model year, and this model year of the Avalon is still part of the same generation as the 2012 model year was. As a result, the 2009 Toyota Avalon is very similar to the 2012 Avalon in many ways.

Once again, the 2009 Toyota Avalon has a 5 out of 5 for its reliability, but its owner satisfaction rating is a bit lower at 4 out of 5. This Avalon is still powered by the same V6 engine that the 2015 model year had, so the 2009 Avalon gets about 25 mpg combined. Since the 2009 Avalon is over a decade old, though, drivers are likely to find it for an affordable price. A used one currently starts at just under $9,000.

2003 Toyota Avalon

Another outstanding Toyota Avalon is the 2003 model year version. This Avalon was part of a different generation, but it’s still a great car despite its age. Consumer Reports said that it received a 5 out of 5 for its reliability and a 5 out of 5 for its owner satisfaction rating.

Its engine is different from the other Avalons already mentioned, but it’s still a reasonably fuel-efficient car for its size with a 23 mpg combined rating. It’ll be a cheap, used car too, as it starts at about $4,000. 

That said, while these were five of the best years for the Toyota Avalon, most Avalon model years are terrific. Unfortunately, the 2022 model year is the last model year of the car, as Toyota is discontinuing it.
