5 Crucial Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Facts You Need to Know
We’ve been enjoying a week with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and it’s not the average three-row SUV. It takes luxury, capability, and fuel efficiency to brand new levels. See what you need to know about the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe before buying one.
Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe worth buying?
Yes, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is an excellent SUV to consider if you want to save fuel without compromising on stout off-roading capabilities. It’s also loaded with premium luxury features.
However, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe price starts at $58,465, so you have to pay a pretty penny to unlock electric power. The regular Grand Cherokee starts at about $38,325. However, it could still be eligible for federal and local tax credits.
Also, higher trim levels of the 4xe, like the Overland, are cheaper than the regular models. So, you can save and get more power.
1. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe has the most power
With the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, you get the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor to crank out 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It’s the most powerful Grand Cherokee available.
The standard Grand Cherokee engine is a 3.6-liter V6 unit with 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 engine for 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. But the 4xe can only tow up to 6,000 bs while gas-powered models can tow up to 7,200 lbs.
2. The max regen setting takes some getting used to
You don’t have to plug the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe in. It runs on gas and electricity but can run on gas alone. However, braking returns energy to the batteries, and you can use the max regeneration mode to harvest more power.
But the max regen mode makes the brakes seem a lot more sensitive and grabby. It takes a little practice to accomplish smooth stops. Also, you instantly start to slow down in max regen mode.
You have to keep your foot on the accelerator to keep up with the speed of traffic unless you’re actually wanting to slow down rapidly. You can turn the max regen mode off with a button near the steering wheel.
3. There are a lot of plush carpets
We have the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Overland, which is the third-highest trim level. It has luxury touches like ambient lighting, wood trim, and super soft carpet. However, durable weather mats are in the first and second rows.
The cargo hold has carpet on the rear seats, across the loading floor, and on the sides of the SUV. It seems easy to get dirt, which makes us not want to through muddy or wet gear back there.
Also, the center console is totally carpeted, and the cup holders are framed by soft, velvet materials. What happens if you splash some coffee on it? Will it stain? Will it be easy to soak up?
4. The Grand Cherokee 4xe saves fuel
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is efficient! It has an electric range of 25 miles on a single charge, so the average daily commuter can primarily use an electric charge during their route. It gets an EPA-estimated 56 MPGe, and we average about 19 mpg on gas alone.
We received the 4xe with a 0 percent charge, but a full tank of gas and probably charged it about 20 miles while making grocery runs at free EV stations. At 100 miles, 45 of them were electric. The regenerative brakes return a serious amount of energy.
5. The Grand Cherokee has outstanding tech
A few months ago, the new Uconnect 5 system had some bugs with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The software was laggy, and it would freeze. However, now everything has been worked out. The system is fast, smooth, and intuitive.
The adjustable air suspension in the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe will automatically adjust based on your driving modes. If you select the Rock off-roading mode, then the ground clearance rises to 11.3 inches.
It automatically lows to the best height for aerodynamics once you return to Auto or Sport mode for the pavement.
The front passenger screen has an HDMI port for video game consoles and allows the copilot to connect their own wireless headphones to tune your boring podcast or annoying music out. They can access the navigation and cameras.
This was only a problem when our front passenger kept putting on the rear camera and laughing at people’s reactions to the suspension raising and lowering at stop lights.
You can access the night vision camera to see animals and pedestrians from a distance, and the weather map shows you where it’s raining along your route.
