Several key SUV nameplates are going away for 2023, like the Nissan Rogue Sport and the Buick Encore. Traditionally, that means you’re likely to find a great deal at your local dealership as they make room for the new 2023s. Cheap SUVs are tough to come by, but we found five for less than $25,000 that aren’t penalty boxes. What models can you snap up from Buick, Nissan, Chevy and Ford for a likely discount now that they’re discontinued?
The Nissan Rogue Sport could have soldiered on
The Rogue SUV continues into 2023, but its little swoopier brother the Rogue Sport disappears. The Rogue Sport, though it has a similar name, is an entirely different vehicle. It starts at $24,260 and offers several safety features, Apple CarPlay and Androd Auto, all-wheel drive and more. It doesn’t hurt that it’s styling that was updated in 2020 has kept it looking fresh, while also earning a high reliability score.

The Chevy Spark is a discontinued SUV
The Chevy Spark held the position not just as the cheapest new SUV you could buy, but the cheapest anything you could buy new in 2022. It’s base price is just $13,600. Sure, it’s basic and you get a simple 1.4-liter four cylinder that makes just 98 horsepower, but the Spark was always a willing city commuter. One huge bonus to the Spark, though, was that you could order one with a manual transmission.
The Buick Encore deserves one
Buick Encore is, basically, a Chevy Trax in a nicer suit. It was a subcompact SUV with a luxury bent. It’s essentially the same SUV as the also-discontinued Trax, but with options it feels like a much different vehicle. It starts at $24,600 and seats 5. The Buick comes in four flavors, GX, Preferred, Select and Essence, which starts at $29,000. The Essence has a heated steering wheel, leather seats, as well as driver safety aids and more.
The Envision ST is now the cheapest Buick on the lot, and it starts at $32,945. However, according to GM Authority, it’s one of the most reliable vehicles you can find.
The Ford EcoSport rode off into the sunset and is a discontinued SUV
The EcoSport was cheap to buy, and inexpensive to own. But, now it leaves the Ford Maverick, at about $20,000, as the cheapest Ford you can buy new. For 2022 the EcoSport starts at $22,040 and gets a nifty 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that gets up to 29 mpg on the highway. The EcoSport was never perfect, but it was a bit larger than the Spark and has a more generous cargo area than you’d expect. It was Ford’s least-expensive crossover.
The Chevy Trax name is coming back, but the old Trax is gone
Yes, there will be a new Trax coming in 2023, and that SUV will be bigger and a lot more expensive. But the 2022 Trax packed in a lot of value at $21,400. The new Trailblazer seems to pick up the Trax’s market space, which includes the Hyundai Kona. But neither of those offers an engine close to Chevy’s powerful engines, like the 155-horsepower three-cylinder, that the 2022 Trax does.
