There are tons of electric pickup trucks entering the market over the next few years. The real question is, which ones will be available the soonest? Here are 5 electric pickup trucks that will be on the road near you by next year, and not just the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Rivian R1T

You might even see one of these trucks on the road already. Regardless of what happens with Rivian going forward, it was the first automaker to put an electric truck on the market. The Rivian R1T is innovative, different, and expensive. It uses a quad-motor drive unit sending power to each wheel to churn out a combined 800 horsepower and 900 pound-feet of torque. With a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds, the new automaker burst into the market, making a statement. 

Unfortunately, its starting price of $67,500 is what deters most people. However, the new truck has done well for itself thus far. Rivian is making an SUV, the R1S, coming soon. 

GMC Hummer EV

The Edition 1 version of the GMC Hummer EV is only mildly different from the truck’s future. This electric pickup has some fancy features that propelled it into instant popularity. Partly because it reuses an old nameplate known for horrid gas mileage. Now, the pickup truck has zero emissions, using a tri-motor setup. It’s completely sold out of preorders, partly because it has 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.

Other exciting features include crab-walking, 329 miles of driving range per charge, and more. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same problem as the Rivian R1T, an incredibly high price. The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 starts at $112,595.

Ford F-150 Lightning

This is probably the first electric pickup truck most people heard about. It might be the reason automakers like Ram and Chevy instantly started working on their EV variant. The Lightning can tow 10,000 pounds, works as a generator that can power your house, and can even charge up another EV. Best of all, it’s surprisingly affordable.

The first incoming electric truck that your average person might be able to afford, the F-150 Lightning, starts at just $39,974. That’s a big reason why it received hundreds of thousands of preorders so quickly. Now Ford’s biggest obstacle is making enough trucks to meet the demand.

Tesla Cybertruck

If we had to choose a truck from the list that will be delayed another year, it would be this one. Initially set to release in 2020, the Tesla Cybertruck just keeps being delayed. Partially, the automaker keeps taking its time to update the unique-looking model to beat its competition. So far, its added things like crab walking, which it didn’t have until the Hummer EV announced that it did. 

While we expect the Tesla Cybertruck to come out soon, it might not be within the next year. As of right now, it’s coming out toward the beginning of 2023, but who really knows? The EV can go from 0 to 60  in under three seconds, has a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, and is the most has such a unique design you might not know its a pickup truck.

Chevrolet Silverado EV

The automaker’s answer to the Ford F-150 Lightning, this EV will be another affordable option. Although official pricing isn’t available, we expect the Silverado EV to sit around the $40,000 range to start, just like the Lightning. We know it comes with a dual-motor drive making 664 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque. It can also tow a total of 10,000 pounds, which is competitive but not the best.

The most significant difference between the Silverado EV and F-150 Lightning? The design is totally different from its gas-powered namesake. Every Lightning model looks almost identical to its non-electric sibling. However, the Silverado EV takes on a whole new design. It seems Chevrolet wants owners to feel like they’ve stepped into the future.

Which electric pickup truck coming by next year is right for you?

With pickup trucks, it’s all about the size and capability you need. The GMC Hummer EV is a fun-to-drive but costly option. In the same vein, the Rivian R1T is a brand new, capable model that provides tons of utility but comes at a pretty penny. Finally, the Tesla Cybertruck is an entirely off-the-wall option for those who want a truck that doesn’t look like one.
