5 of the Fastest Acura Models Ever Produced
Acura hasn’t been known to produce the fastest cars in the market, but it has made a few sports cars along the way. Everyone may be familiar with standout performance cars like the Acura Integra Type R and the Acura NSX. But did you know that the Japanese automaker has made a few other fast cars that you may not remember? Let’s jog your memory with the five fastest cars that Honda’s luxury arm has ever produced.
5. Acura Integra Type R – 140 mph
The Acura Integra was well-known by many as the brand’s entry-level sports car in the mid-to-late 90s. But in 1997, Acura debuted the Integra Type R, which was a sportier version of the agile coupe. Its double wishbone suspension, reinforced chassis, and 195-hp VTEC engine made it a more formidable performer than the regular Integra, and it put down some decent performance numbers. According to Findlay Acura, the Integra Type R could reach 60 mph from a standstill in 6.2 seconds and up to a top speed of 140 mph.
4. Acura RSX Type-S – 140 mph
After Integra bowed out in 2001, the Acura RSX was born in 2002. The base RSX had a 160-hp engine and a sporty suspension that was great for everyday driving. However, the RSX Type-S kicked things up a notch with a high-revving 210-hp engine, a tighter suspension, and larger brakes, making it a good track performer. With those underpinnings, the RSX Type-S was able to scoot up to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds and up to a top speed of 140 mph.
3. Acura RLX Hybrid – 143 mph
The Acura RLX Hybrid was the brand’s flagship sedan that was canceled in 2020. Despite its odd pairing of luxury features with an NSX-derived hybrid powertrain, the RLX Hybrid was actually pretty quick for a large sedan. It was able to go from 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds, and its top speed was rated at 143 mph. That’s not bad for a hybrid car – although the RLX wasn’t your typical hybrid.
2. Acura TL – 150 mph
The Acura TL was produced from the mid-90s up to 2014. But the 2010 model year is when it started to get good in terms of performance. Acura gave it a 3.7-liter V6 engine that made 305 hp, a Super-Handling AWD system, and an option for a six-speed manual transmission. In terms of performance, this luxury sedan was able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 150 mph.
1. 2017 Acura NSX – 191 mph
The latest generation of the Acura NSX started in 2017 after a 12-year hiatus. This version of the automaker’s supercar ditched the last version’s naturally aspirated V6 engine and rear-drive layout. Instead, it went with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a tri-motor AWD setup that sent power to all four wheels.
How much power? Try 573 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, which was good enough to get the super rolling to 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.1 seconds. As for the top speed, the NSX could reach a staggering 191 mph, which makes it the fastest Acura on this list.
The fastest Acura cars ever produced
Although Acura isn’t primarily a sports car brand, it has produced some track terrors over the years. Cars like the NSX, RSX and Integra Type R are sure standouts. We just hope that the Japanese automaker keeps them coming in the future.
