5 Funky Features on the 2022 Lexus NX 350 F Sport
The Lexus NX was redesigned for the 2022 model year. Along with a new look inside and out, the NX received a few new nifty features including a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, during my week spent with the car, I also found a few funky little features that I felt were worth noting.
1. The 2022 Lexus NX has a dual-opening center console
In most cars, the center console lid has a latch in the middle of it, which makes it accessible for both the driver and the passenger. However, in the 2022 Lexus NX, the center console lid has push-button latches on either side of it giving a dual-opening action. That’s right, now your passenger can rummage through all of that unnecessary stuff that you stow away for years on end. I swear, nothing is private these days.
2. A digital mirror is an option
Unfortunately, the NX 350 F Sport that I tested for a week didn’t have the digital mirror option, but it does come on the higher trim levels. Basically, the digital mirror has a lever on the bottom of it and when you flip it, it turns into a screen that shows your rearview.
Yes, the car still has the rearview camera. But the digital mirror displays a more elevated view, which makes it perfect if the cargo area is filled up with stuff and the driver can’t see out the rear window.
3. The NX has some funky door handles that take time to get used to
Automakers seem to like making the most mundane features more interesting by designing them differently. For instance, simply opening a door with a normal handle isn’t good enough anymore. As such, Lexus gave the 2022 NX door handles that are push-button actuated on the outside and the inside. The interior door handle is more interesting, though, as you have to push the level to open the door instead of pulling it.
Why even have a lever in the first place? Anyway, it does take a day or so to get used to, so be prepared.
4. The multi-information head-up display is fancy
My test car came with the option 10-inch head-up display, which is nice and clear. But the funky part about it is that you can toggle through different menus via the buttons on the steering wheel. The screen even reacts to your inputs when you graze your finger over the buttons, so watch out, because they are kind of sensitive and you may end up toggling to different menus when turning the steering wheel as I did.
5. The Prius-style shifter is a little weird at first
If you have ever owned a Toyota Prius, then you’ll get used to the shifter in the Lexus NX pretty quickly because it has the same joystick-style action. For the unfamiliar, to shift the NX into “drive” or “reverse,” you have slide the shift lever over and down or up, and then it returns to its normal resting spot. It’s weird at first, but just like the door handles, but you’ll get used to it after a few days.
The Lexus NX’s funky features
The 2022 Lexus NX’s redesign came with a lot of changes, but these five funky features stand out when you have to get used to the car. However, once you do, the NX offers a very comfortable ride with lots of luxury and power to boot. If you end up buying one, just remember that there’s a learning curve with a couple of the everyday features, but just like anything else, they soon become second nature.
