While everyone is focused on electric vehicles, why not take a look at some diesel vehicles? The list below has some diesel trucks and vans on the market that might be worth looking at. Though the Cadillac Escalade is an expensive pick, the Chevrolet Express van balances it out.
Yes, Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV are huge trucks
Car and Driver put together a list of some diesel options available, and the Cadillac Escalade is at the top of the list. Fortunately, the price of the giant SUV is mostly the same if you want the 420 horsepower gas-powered Escalade or the 3.0L turbo-diesel. Only $77,490 for the gasoline and $80,490 for the diesel.
The Escalade diesel can also tow 7,900 pounds should you need it and comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The mileage is an EPA reported 23 miles per gallon combines, 21 in the city and 27 on the highway.
The Chevrolet Express is a sweet van
The Chevrolet Express is technically a full-size van that is mostly used as a work van. The Express starts at $37,865 for the cargo version and $41,690 for the passenger option. This van can tow 7,000 pounds and gets 181 horsepower from the 2.8L diesel inline-four.
Since the fan isn’t really a truck, it is exempt from sharing the fuel-economy information. Lucky Chevy Express!
The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD is heavy duty
The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has a 6.6L Duramax diesel V8. It gets 445 horsepower and 910 lb ft of torque. The price starts at $48,585 but gets more expensive as you go.
Since the Silverado is also a heavy-duty truck, it is exempt from sharing fuel economy statistics as well. But the Silverado can tow up to 18,500 pounds for the 2500HD and 20,000 pounds for the 3500HD. Not bad if you are interested in towing small houses around on the weekends.
The classic Ford F-150 pickup truck
The Ford F-150 is one of the more popular trucks available. The 3.0L 250hp V6 makes 440 lb ft of torque at 1750 rpm. It has a 10-speed automatic transmission and is only available with four-wheel drive in the F-150.
The diesel V6 option gets 27 miles per gallon on the highway but is only available on the XL trims and up. It also costs about $5,000 extra. But don’t worry, it’ll tow 12,100 pounds with the max trailer tow package, so it can also tow houses or horses.
Pick up a GMC Canyon, why don’t you
The GMC Canyon has a max towing capacity of 7,700 pounds from the 2.8L diesel inline-four. It gets 181 horsepower and has a six-speed automatic transmission. The Canyon is offered in a few trims: SLE, SLT, All-Terrain, and Denali. The diesel option isn’t on the base SL trim, though.
The Canyon gets a respectable 30 miles per gallon for the most part, but the four-wheel-drive options get only 28 miles on the highway. The price for this one sits at $39,325 but will likely cost you a little more to upgrade further.
