If you’re searching for an affordable compact EV, your options may be limited, but the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a worthy alternative to the Chevrolet Bolt. Despite being priced above $30,000, the Ioniq 5 offers three trims for the 2023 model year, with the RWD Limited trim providing up to 303 miles of range.

The entry-level trim is still a decent choice, with a range of 220 miles and DC fast-charge capability to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. The Ioniq 5 also boasts a spacious cargo area, ranging from 27.2 cubic feet to 59.3 cubic feet with the seats down, and either one or two electric motors with power ranging from 168 to 320 horsepower.

While the S model has a range of only 149 miles, the SV Plus boasts a 212-mile range.

This is thanks to its 160-kW electric motor that produces 214 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. Although both Leaf models are considered among the least efficient EVs, the SV Plus offers a Quick Charge port that can recharge the battery up to 80 percent in just an hour. The Leaf also has a roomy cargo space of 23.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats. It has a cumulative 30 cubic feet with the seats folded.

The best configuration can provide up to 340 miles of range and go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Thanks to its ultra-fast 800-Volt charging technology, the Ioniq 6 can charge to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. However, its trunk space is limited, with a capacity of only 11.2 cubic feet.

In addition, its powerful electric motor can deliver up to 455 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque.

Meanwhile, the Long Range version offers a range of over 325 miles. The Model 3 is also a speedy EV, with the entry-level model sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The Performance version reaches that speed in just 3.1 seconds. The Model 3 offers a spacious cargo area of 19.8 cubic feet. There is an extra 3.1 cubic feet of storage space in the frunk.

Will the Chevrolet Bolt be replaced?

Whether you prioritize range, performance, or value, an electric vehicle out there can meet your needs and exceed your expectations.
