The Honda Passport is a capable off-road performance SUV, but it may not be the right car for everyone. The good news is that the SUV segment is booming, and there are many options for car shoppers to choose from, including alternatives to the Passport that aren’t a Ford Bronco or a Jeep Wrangler. Here’s a look at five alternatives to the Honda Passport that aren’t a Bronco or a Wrangler.

1. GMC Acadia

Edmunds said that the Acadia is a spacious and capable SUV that can perform well off-road. The cheapest trim with all-wheel drive is the SLT, and it costs about $43,000. That’s $2,000 more than the Passport’s $41,000 starting MSRP. The Acadia also has the AT4 trim, which is its dedicated off-road trim, and it costs slightly more than $43,000.

The GMC SUV has three rows of seats. It has a max cargo capacity of 79 cu-ft, and there are two engine options. It starts with a 2.0-liter that gets 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and there’s also a V6 that gets 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque.

That V6 is more powerful than the Passport’s 280-hp engine, and the Acadia’s cargo capacity is slightly better than the Passport’s 77.7 cu-ft of space.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee, meanwhile, is a more refined version of the Wrangler. It has a traditional SUV shape, but it’s still a capable off-roader. The Grand Cherokee’s cheapest trim with four-wheel drive starts at about $41,000.

It comes with a V6 that gets 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. That’s about the same power as the Passport’s engine. It also seats five and has a max cargo capacity of 70.8 cu-ft. 

3. Mazda CX-50

This compact Mazda SUV is much smaller than the Cherokee, the Acadia, and the Honda Passport, but it’s still a capable off-roader and a great alternative. Plus, due to its smaller size, it’s also significantly cheaper than most of its rivals. The CX-50 starts at about $27,500, and all-wheel drive is a standard feature.

It has two engine options available, and they’re both a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. One is naturally aspirated and it gets 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, while the other is turbocharged which allows it to get 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The CX-50 seats five, and due to its small size, its cargo capacity tops out at about 56.3 cu-ft.

4. Subaru Outback

This Subie SUV is a very popular off-road option, and despite being a midsize SUV like the Passport, it’s much cheaper as it starts at about $28,400. It comes with all-wheel drive as standard, and there are two engine options available.

It starts with a 2.5-liter that gets 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque, and it also has a 2.4-liter that gets 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It seats five, and it has a max cargo capacity of 75.6 cu-ft. This means that, with the 2.4-liter engine equipped, the Outback has essentially the same specs as the Passport.

5. Toyota 4Runner

The 4Runner is another popular off-road option, but it won’t be cheap. The cheapest version with all-wheel drive starts at about $41,400, which makes it slightly more expensive than the Passport.

All 4Runners come with the same 270-hp engine and it gets 278 lb-ft of torque. It has five seats, but it has a max cargo capacity of 89.7 cu-ft, which is much better than the Passport.
