5 Important 2023 Mazda CX-50 Facts to Know Before Buying
The brand new Mazda CX-50 is here, and it’s a lot better than you think. The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is unlike any other Mazda SUV fans have seen before, so it’s time to clear a few things up. If you want one, move fast because models are flying off the lot.
What is the 2023 Mazda CX-50?
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a brand new compact SUV that’s designed for the American market with rugged upgrades, including all-wheel drive. It’s 10 inches longer and about three inches wider than the CX-5.
It provides a confident look with the rugged capabilities to go further into nature with unmatched i-Activ AWD. But it also performs as a practical and sporty daily driver with all of the Mazda features that you love.
People are taking notice. The CX-50 sold 1,700 units during its first month, and it’s staying on lots for about three days. It’s currently the fastest selling Mazda vehicle, with 34 percent of units moving within 24 hours.
1. The CX-50 has a different ride quality
We aren’t strangers to Mazda SUVs and enjoy how the CX-30, CX-5, CX-9, and more have a smooth ride. But the Mazda CX-50 is built for off-roading, meaning it doesn’t have a super smooth ride like alternatives in the lineup.
This is a fair trade-off for the enhanced capabilities. Climbing over steep inclines, tackling dirt trails, and splashing through creeks aren’t issues. Plus, the CX-50 has responsive handling, an excellent grip for corning, and a thrilling sport mode to make errands fun.
2. The CX-50 is fun
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 will bring a smile to your face both on and off the pavement. Especially with the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds.
You can turn off traction control for more control on slippery surfaces and inclement conditions. It offers more confidence on dirt and gravel roads. Plus, the i-Activ AWD system provides the best settings for going down steep inclines.
3. The CX-50 is a show stopper
People haven’t seen a Mazda SUV with such a distinct and attractive look in a while. People will come up and ask what you’re driving, and then more questions may follow. Someone asked me if I had a new Infiniti because the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is trendy and luxurious.
We also received a lot of flack about the Mazda CX-50’s tires. They don’t look like the best off-road options, but they didn’t struggle in the woods. Also, at trailheads, people left their Subarus and Toyota Highlander models to stare at the CX-50.
4. The CX-50 is convenient
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 has a tight turning radius, making it incredibly easy to maneuver around obstacles. Plus, the optional 360-degree camera displays everything around the vehicle, and parking sensors let you know how much space you have.
You can fold the rear seats down with the touch of a button, and the power lift tailgate simplifies loading and unloading cargo. You can opt for a wireless phone charger, built-in navigation, and onboard wi-fi.
5. A few things are missing
During our week with the Mazda CX-50, we found ourselves wanting a few features that other rugged vehicles have. For example, there isn’t a regular 120-volt household outlet in the rear. You only have USB ports and auxiliary power outlets for devices.
Our model had carpet everywhere, which did stand up to dirt and mud perfectly fine. However, other options have rubberized flooring and all-weather mats, which is a little more comforting when it comes to battling the elements.
Also, storage space for small items isn’t the best. You may have to pack your tools in creative ways because there isn’t even a pocket on the back of the front seat. Cup holders and storage bins are pretty narrow.
