5 Large SUVs That Can Hold the Most Cargo
If you have a big family and you enjoy going on long trips, it is essential that you have a vehicle that is large enough to handle all of your needs. Not only will you need enough space for all of the passengers, but you will also need plenty of space for cargo. A full-size or large SUV usually fits the bill. Here are the five large SUVs that can hold the most cargo, based on ratings by Consumer Reports.
Consumer Reports utilizes a unique method for evaluating cargo space. It inserts an expandable rectangular pipe-frame “box” into the cargo area. Consumer Reports then measures the volume that is enclosed by the box. It uses this figure for the cargo capacity. This gives consumers a more accurate depiction of the type of cargo that they can fit in the back of a vehicle. For this top five list, the SUVs are ranked in order of the cargo space they provide with both the 2nd and 3rd rows folded down.
5. 2021 Lincoln Navigator
The 2021 Lincoln Navigator offers 56 cubic feet of cargo space. When all of the seats are in use, the Navigator still offers a generous amount of storage space behind the third row for things like some duffle bags. Also, the Navigator has a small storage area that’s located under the cargo floor.
The Navigator shares the vehicle foundation of the spacious Ford Expedition (see below) and then takes the luxury up a few notches. It’s available in either seven-seat or eight-seat configurations, with all rows providing a decent amount of passenger space.
4. 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe
With both the second-row and third-row folded down flat, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe provides 58 cubic feet of storage space. With just the third-row folded down flat, the Tahoe can comfortably seat four or five passengers while still providing enough storage for things like your children’s sporting gear or many duffle bags.
The one challenge with the Tahoe is its high load floor. This makes it a little more difficult to lift your storage items into the SUV.
3. 2021 Toyota Sequoia
The last time that the Sequoia received a significant upgrade was 2008, which makes it a spacious throwback SUV. When it debuted, the Sequoia was unique in its ability to have its third-row seat fold down flat into a well. However, the Sequoia’s SUV competitors caught on, and now most of them provide this ability.
The Sequoia still holds its own for storage space, with a maximum cargo capacity of 61 cubic feet. The passengers need to take a high step to get into the Sequoia. However, once they are inside, they can take advantage of the cavernous interior.
2. 2021 Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition is a massive SUV, especially the Expedition MAX model, which is an extended-length version. The Expedition MAX has a total length of 222 inches. This is 12 inches longer than the standard Expedition model.
All of this extra length results in a considerable amount of interior space. The Expedition MAX has a maximum cargo capacity of 66 cubic feet. With all of this storage space, it’s easy to load up your gear for your family trips.
1. 2021 Chevrolet Suburban
The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban takes the top spot on this list of the most cargo space for large SUVs. With a maximum cargo capacity of 70 cubic feet, the Suburban offers a generous amount of storage for family adventures. Also, the 70 cubic feet of cargo space is an increase of 8 cubic feet over the previous generation Suburban model.
Like the Chevy Tahoe, the Suburban has a high cargo floor. If you have shorter stature, you may find it challenging to load your storage items into the vehicle.
