Luxury cars and SUVs are known to have resale values that plummet faster than lead balloons. But there are exceptions to that rule. These five luxury SUVs are expected to hold their value a lot more than other luxury SUVs. Maybe it’s their options, their speed, their off-road prowess, or simply their quality, but these luxury SUVs can do it all and will save you a lot when it’s time to sell it.

Maintaining your SUV and keeping it clean will maintain its value

Keep it in good shape. Your luxury SUV’s resale value will stay high if you take care of your SUV. That’s a no-brainer. Nobody wants to buy a stinky (especially smoky), dingy dirty SUV with torn seats and stained carpet. Also, low mileage and the right options packages will help your SUV keep its value. Maintaining your SUV is also a key. Make sure you get the oil changed on time, for example, and keep the records.

Assuming you’ve maintained your SUV and kept it clean, these are the five luxury SUVs that will maintain their value the best according to Kelley Blue Book.

1: The GMC Yukon

The Yukon Denali is an SUV that will have the highest resale value in five years.

The GMC Yukon Denali can rival Cadillacs, but the base Yukon can still be ordered as a luxury SUV. It’s pretty much the same SUV as the Chevy Tahoe, but dressed up in and out. It offers seating for seven or eight and clever features like a sliding console. The Yukon is based on the GMC Sierra, which means it can tow as much as 8,300 pounds and can be ordered with a 420-horsepower V8 or even a 3-liteer turbo diesel. But the Yukon ditches the truck’s solid rear axle and adds a comfy independent rear suspension. The   Overall, the Yukon is a big, brawny, full-sized SUV that retains its value, up to 47.2% according to KBB.

2: The Lexus LX 600

In other parts of the world, the Lexus LX is called the Toyota Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser is one of the most capable SUVs (too bad it’s not imported to the U.S. anymore), and in Lexus trim, it’s one of the most luxurious. For several years, the Consumer Reports has said the LX is on one of the most satisfying luxury SUVS and that’s one of the reasons KBB says it will retain up to 45.2% of its value. For 2022 Lexus updated the LX with a giant toothy grille, dropped in a powerful twin-turbo V6, and added a lot more options that can take the price of a fully-loaded LX to almost $130,000.  

3: The Lincoln Aviator

The Lincoln Aviator was all-new in 2020 and quickly earned praise for its smooth twin-turbo V6, and a hybrid powertrain. It’s very similar to the Navigator, but because it’s a bit smaller mid-sized SUV, it’s simply easier to park. But with up to 494 horsepower on tap in some trims, the Aviator can run with Porsches and BMWs with ease. But rather than being tuned for all-out race track performance, it is tuned for road trips and highway comfort, and perhaps that’s why it keeps up to 41.5% of it’s value in five years and Porsches don’t. For 2022, the Aviator has new appearance packages and driver aids, like Ford’s latest Co-Pilot 360.

4: The Mercedes-Benz GLB

The GLB is not the most popular Mercedes-Benz SUV, that’s the GLC, but don’t count the GLB out. It’s slightly larger than a GLC and can carry up to seven passengers, and it has a few more cubic feet of cargo capacity. The GLB is not as quick as a GLC, but its smaller 2-liter turbocharged engine does get up to 31 mpg on the highway. It’s also less expensive than the GLC. The GLB offers a lot of value for a base price of around $40,000, and maybe that’s why it’s expected to keep up to 41.1%  of its value in five years.

5: The Range Rover Velar

The Range Rover is a bit of a surprise on this list. Most Rovers aren’t known for holding their value long term, but the Velar is different. It’s a different kind of Rover, too. The Velar is certainly stylish, and its sleek and clean body lines will turn heads. It even has some off-road abilities that other SUVS in the luxury class don’t have. It’s expensive, considering it’s a smallish five-passenger SUV that has an overwhelmed 247-horsepower four-cylinder. But, in some trims you can order the 395-horsepower turbo- and supercharged inline six-cylinder that makes this SUV a hotrod. The Velar’s stylish exterior, powerful optional engine, and off-road chops are some of the reasons it’s expected to keep up to 36% of its value.
