Reliability has always been an important consideration when buying a new car. Reliable cars hold their value well, are cheaper to own, and are easier for your peace of mind. Naturally, the more miles the car lasts, the longer you can avoid buying another vehicle which is another part of its reliability. With this in mind, we’ve listed the five models most likely to last 200,000 miles or more according to iSeeCars, and unsurprisingly the Toyota brand stands at the top of the pack.

1. Toyota Land Cruiser

The Toyota Land Cruiser tops iSeeCars list of the most likely models to last more than 200,000. According to Engine Patrol, it can last between 250,000 and 300,000 if you keep up with regular maintenance and servicing. It could even last longer depending on daily use.

Given that the average annual mileage for cars in the U.S. is 12,724, according to Kelley Blue Book, this translates to about 19 years on the low end and just under 24 years on the high end. The Land Cruiser is a truck-based SUV designed for off-roading and harsh driving conditions.

Unfortunately, Toyota discontinued the Land Cruiser in the U.S. in 2021, so the only way to own one is to get a used model. That said, it remains a popular model in the rest of the world.

2. Toyota Sequoia

Coming in second is another body-on-frame Toyota SUV in the form of the Sequoia. It’s a great family car with seats for up to eight passengers, and with powerful engines included, it’s also capable of towing for a camping trip.

Like the Land Cruiser, it’s designed to last nearly 300,000 miles meaning that even if you drive 15,000 miles annually, it should serve you for at least 17 years. Also, it’s more than twice as likely to last 200,000 miles as the next model on the list.

The Sequoia is still in production in the U.S., although now, instead of gas-only engines, you get hybrid powertrains.

3. Chevrolet Suburban

Following the Sequoia is General Motor’s Chevy suburban, one of the brand’s longest-running nameplates. According to Car and Driver, it was first introduced in 1935 as a truck-based wagon.

Currently, it is in its 12th generation and is built on the GM T1 platform, which is General Motors’ architecture for body-on-frame SUVs and pickup trucks. The platform was introduced in 2018 and can be seen in other GM vehicles like the GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and even the next model on the list, the GMC Yukon XL.

4. GMC Yukon XL

Like the Chevy Suburban, the Yukon XL is a full-size SUV in General Motor’s lineup. Current models have seven-seater or eight-seater configurations, although some previous models could fit up to nine. It also shares componentry with the Chevy Suburban, including the GM T1 platform.

Yukon XL models with as many as 276,000 miles on the odometer are still available in functioning order. As such, if you take care of yours, it should last well over 15 years.

5.     Toyota 4Runner

Toyota manages to sneak the 4Runner, another SUV, into the top five most likely vehicles to last over 200,000 miles. While you can’t get a new Land Cruiser in the U.S., the Toyota 4Runner is the next best thing since it’s built on the same platform.

According to HotCars, it might even be a good idea to buy one used, given its off-road capabilities and reputation for durability. The fact that it makes up 3.9% of vehicles that have lasted over 200,000 miles is also a good sign.
