Car shopping as an investment is inherently risky. After all, you could be betting on a vehicle that will turn out to be a complete bust in terms of depreciation. Furthermore, the most valuable cars are often the most fun to drive, so you’d have to fight the urge to put miles on whatever you’re hanging on to as an investment. At any rate, here are five modern muscle cars that might be worth a mint someday.

Hennessey Corvette ZR1

On the Hotcars list of modern muscle cars that may eventually be worth a healthy chunk of change, the number five slot is held by the Hennessey C7 Corvette ZR1.

As is typical with Hennessey, the already bonkers Corvette ZR1 gets a handful of notches bumped up once it’s in the legendary tuner’s hands. The result is a 1,200-horsepower monster that can sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.4 seconds.

The Hennessey ZR1 has potential for solid appreciation, thanks to its rarity. The ZR1 is already not all that common of a sight. So, having one with the Hennessey touch would put you in an exclusive position. However, they aren’t cheap to get into.

When new, a C7 ZR1 Corvette was about $120,000 on its own. Adding the Hennessey touch likely brought that number over the quarter-million mark. As the old adage goes, it’s easy to make money if you already have it.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE

The Camaro ZL1 1LE is the absolute epitome of Camaro performance. It takes the already gnarly supercharged power of the ZL1 trim and adds the 1LE performance package. Track-ready aero and suspension make this thing far more than the straight-line hero most perceive the Camaro to be.

Don’t think that’s a downplay, though. The ZL1 1LE can still sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 3.1 seconds, carrying on to 100 mph in just 7.4 seconds. Certainly, the ZL1 1LE is a proper weapon for any track.

Additionally, it may be a great long-term financial investment.

Chevrolet SS

The Chevrolet SS is a pretty underground vehicle. However, it’s been gaining a bit of traction lately, and prices have been steadily increasing. So, you may be a bit late to the party, but there’s still potential for some money to be made here.

The Chevrolet SS is effectively a staple of GM muscle from our friends down under. The Australian market loves the Holden Commodore. It’s a sleek sedan with modern styling and a screaming LS under the hood. Naturally, it seems like everything Americans would love, too, right?

Wrong. When the Commodore made its way to the U.S. as the Chevrolet SS, it flopped like a fish out of water. It’s a shame, too, because they’re really cool.

These 415 horsepower brutes are still pretty affordable at the moment. So, you might want to dip your feet in while you still can! Who knows? Maybe it’ll pay big dividends in the future.

Pontiac G8 GXP

Another American delivery of the Holden factory is the Pontiac G8 GXP. Like the Chevrolet SS, it’s another modern-style sedan that features traditional American muscle values. A big V8 up front and power going to the back.

Only 1,800 G8 GXP examples were ever sold. So, this one has some high hopes for steady appreciation. Of course, you couldn’t be blamed if you took it out for a cruise every once in a while. After all, it’s got over 400 horsepower that needs to be unleashed from time to time!

Shelby GT350R

The S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R is a staple of modern muscle cars and a vehicle that many Mustang enthusiasts are still mourning the loss of.

This track-ready Mustang features hardcore suspension that prioritizes performance over driver comfort. Under the hood is the iconic flat-plane-crank 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 engine pushing out a massive 526 horsepower.

Putting the power down through the rear wheels and a six-speed manual transmission, these beasts could still sprint to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. They’d just prefer not to go in a straight line.

Pick a winner; you can’t lose!

Even if these cars don’t pay off massively down the road, they’re all fantastic and exciting cars to be behind the wheel of. So, maybe you won’t wind up being an auction millionaire story. You might at the very least get your money back!
