As auto journalists, we drive some of the latest and greatest new cars every week for testing purposes. It’s a thankless job, but someone has to do it. Part of our testing includes checking out all the features and putting the cars through their paces to feel what they are like daily.

During this time, we get to test how comfortable each one is. We make sure to go on long drives to see if their seats are as supportive as the first time we sat in them. We push buttons and tap the touchscreen to try out all of their creature comforts as well. Here are five of the most comfortable cars we have driven this year.

1. 2022 Lexus ES 300h

If you’re looking for a cloud-like ride and a pillow-soft seat, we recommend the 2022 Lexus ES 300h. The ES 300h is the brand’s mid-size hybrid sedan that shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Camry. That means it’s reliable, fuel-efficient, and super comfortable.

The seats contour your back nicely, and the cabin does well to isolate you from the outside world. It’s no wonder that Car and Driver called it the “rolling Xanax pill.”

2. 2022 Acura MDX Type S

The 2022 Acura MDX Type S is the caffeinated version of the brand’s three-row SUV. Not only is it fast, with its 335-hp turbocharged V6 engine, but it’s super comfortable. We especially liked the front seat massagers, which knead your upper and lower back as opposed to using vibrations. Also, the ventilated seats came in handy during the summertime.

In addition to those features, the MDX’s spaciousness and good seating position made us feel like we were in the lap of luxury – albeit a very sporty lap. It’s no wonder Acura has sold over a million MDXs thus far.

3. 2022 BMW i4 M50

The 2022 BMW i4 M50 is an all-electric mid-size sedan based on the 4 Series. Despite the German automaker’s reputation for sportiness, we were surprised that the i4 was as comfortable as it was. Its interior was spacious and well-sorted, and its suspension was so soft that we could have easily taken a cross-country road trip without any complaints.

4. 2023 Genesis GV60

The 2023 Genesis GV60 is a quirky EV hatchback that looks like it was transported five years in the future. Fortunately, we have it now and can’t say enough good things about it. It has futuristic features like a crystal ball shifter, facial recognition, and a fingerprint scanner. Best of all, it’s really comfortable.

The leather is soft, the seats are plush, and everything you need is within easy reach. The GV60 is so nice that we forgot that it’s made by Hyundai. It should definitely put the German automakers on notice in the future. Even if it is only five years from now.

5. 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 is hard to beat when it comes to uber-luxurious electric sedans. We love the 56-inch Hyperscreen dash and the LED interior lighting at night that makes it look like it’s from the movie Tron. It’s also really fast with its dual-motor setup and extremely comfortable.

There are little pillows on the headrests, seat massagers, and every comfort feature you would expect from a super luxury EV.

The most comfortable press cars we have driven

We have the privilege of driving different cars every week to rate and review them, but these five were among the most comfortable this year.
