The 5 Most Expensive EVs to Insure Include Plenty of Luxury Models
With new EVs hitting dealer lots with each passing month, we are starting to see an increase in insurance costs on these zero-emission vehicles. New technologies and intricate driving systems often lead to costly repairs and bigger risks for insurance companies to take, which are offset by higher premiums. Forbes recently released a list of the least and most expensive EVs to insure, and it used a hypothetical low-risk 40-year-old driver as the insurance quote recipient. Here are the top five most expensive luxury EVs to insure according to Forbes.
Audi RS e-tron GT
The Audi RS e-tron GT is the top of the line when it comes to Audi’s sport EV offerings. This RS variant of the e-tron GT is the first EV from Audi to don the famous high-performance RS badge. The model starts at $139,900 MSRP according to U.S. News, and the price to insure is an annual premium of $4,150.
Tesla Model S Plaid
Tesla’s world-famous Model S performance sedan makes this list in its top-of-the-line Plaid model, which has the power to go 0-60 mph in 2 seconds. This performance comes with a price tag of $135,990 MSRP. This high-priced luxury EV also carries an annual insurance premium of $4,115.
Porsche Taycan Turbo S
The Porsche Taycan brings Porsche performance and drivability to the EV marketplace with a sports car that views electric power as a performance opportunity, rather than just a source of zero-emission transportation. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the top-of-the-line Taycan with an MSRP of $187,400. This luxury EV carries an average annual insurance premium of $4,028.
Tesla Model S Long Range
While it may not reach the same blistering performance as the Model S Plaid, the Tesla Model S Long Range is still an incredible luxury sports EV that lives up to the Long Range aspect of its name. The model has an estimated range of 402 miles on a single charge, making most road trips possible without finding a charger. The Tesla Model S Long Range has an MSRP of $104,490 according to KBB and an average annual insurance premium of $3,503.
Tesla Model X Plaid
The Tesla Model X Plaid has the performance aspect of a Tesla Model S Plaid, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds in a crossover SUV body but also has a little more room. Carrying an average annual insurance premium of $3,386, the luxury model has an MSRP of $138,990.
That was five luxury EVs found on Forbes list. And while all of these are incredible performance vehicles, they carry high prices and high EV insurance premiums due to their top-of-the-line technology. If these high insurance premiums shocked you a bit, not every electric vehicle is expensive to insure!
