The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ is the German brand’s entrant into the luxury electric vehicle world. It competes with the likes of the Lucid Air and the Tesla Model S, but it brings its own sense of style and unique technology to the electric table. I had the pleasure of spending a week with the EQS 450 and was utterly blown away by everything it had to offer. Here are five of the most impressive features that I discovered during my time with it.

1. The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450’s regenerative brakes are no joke

Whether you buy a hybrid or electric car, it’s going to have regenerative brakes to recoup some of the spent energy when slowing the car down. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS’ regenerative braking system is matched to a conventional hydraulic system, which admittedly makes the brake pedal feel weird, but it works like a charm.

I drove up to the mountains from Denver and spent about 80 miles of range doing so. However, on my way back home, I started the trip with 196 miles of range left and when I got to my destination, I had 201 miles. Of course, a lot of the journey was downhill, so that helped, but it goes to show that the system works well.

2. The seats are by far the most comfortable I have ever sat in

The seats in the Mercedes-Benz EQS are by far the most comfortable I have ever sat in. They’re stitched together with Nappa leather and are so supportive that you’re sure to feel refreshed when you get to your destination as opposed to feeling sore or fatigued. What makes them even better is the massage function that kneads your back instead of vibrating. There is even a multitude of different massage settings as well.

3. The augmented reality head-up display is super impressive

If you think that head-up displays in newer cars are super cool, the display in the EQS will blow your mind. It uses augmented reality to show the driver directions when a destination is mapped out in the navigation system. It doesn’t just show arrows to point you left or right, but it has a 3D effect that essentially guides you into the lane you should be in before making the turn so that you don’t have to take your eyes off the road, notes Cars.com. The suggested lane change direction is shown on the center screen as well.

4. The Hyperscreen’s functionality and design are second-to-none

The Hyperscreen is one of the coolest features I have ever seen in a car. It’s a 56-inch wide glass panel that’s made up of three different screens – a 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver, a 17-inch screen in the middle, and a 12.3-inch screen in front of the passenger. All of the screens are easy to use and navigate and the best part is that the passenger actually has something to do while sitting there. In case you’re wondering, the passenger’s screen allows them to control the music, view the navigation map, and use some of the built-in apps in the system.

5. The interior lighting is too cool not to show off

Lastly, the Mercedes-Benz EQS interior lighting is top-notch. There’s an LED strip that goes around the dash as well as the front and rear door panels. At night, it looks like the décor from an 80s club in Miami, in a good way. Also, you can change the color to almost any color on the light spectrum to suit your personal tastes.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is an impressive car in itself
