5 of the Most Car-Seat Friendly New Cars
Shopping for a compact car or sedan can be tough when you have little ones to transport. You have to make sure the car has enough head- and legroom, enough cupholders and storage, and, most importantly, the right safety equipment to keep everyone safe in case the worst should happen. Fortunately, Carmax took some of the guesswork out of the equation by compiling a shortlist of sedans currently on the market that will work best for you and your kiddos.
2021 Honda Civic
First up is the well-known and well-respected Honda Civic. There haven’t been many changes to the Honda Civic since its newest body style change in 2016, which means that it still has ample room for two car seats in the rear-seat area complete with LATCH systems and tethers for both. Carmax picked the Civic due to its “Acceptable” LATCH rating as given by the IIHS, but you’ll most likely pick it for its renowned reliability, affordable entry price, and the fact that it has enough room for your family of five (or less).
2021 Toyota Camry
If you’re looking for a larger sedan, then it’s hard to beat a mid-size competitor like the Toyota Camry. And why not? The Camry has been in the market for decades due to its amazing reliability record, affordable price point, and a large amount of passenger room for up to five occupants. Even better, the Camry received a Top Safety Pick + award from the IIHS, which means that it received stellar safety ratings across the board in addition to a “Good +” rating in the “LATCH ease of use” category.
2020 Hyundai Elantra
There is an all-new Hyundai Elantra on the market for the 2021 model year, however, the 2020 model is still a great value as it earned a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS with “good” ratings in every category as well as an “acceptable” rating in the LATCH ease of use” category. Additionally, the Hyundai Elantra is great from a value standpoint as it comes very well-equipped at a low price point and has a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty that can’t be beaten.
2021 Toyota Avalon
If small cars like the Elantra and Civic aren’t large enough for your budding family, then a full-size sedan like the 2021 Toyota Avalon could do the trick. With a cavernous interior, loads of comfort, and a smooth drivetrain, it’s no wonder that the Avalon has remained in the market for decades. But what you’ll really like is that for 2020, the Avalon received “good” ratings in every category and even scored a “Good +” rating for its LATCH system, all of which led to a “Top Safety Pick +” award from the IIHS. The 2021 model received the same ratings.
2021 Honda Accord
Out of almost every car in the automotive spectrum, one of the most popular choices that doesn’t need an introduction is the esteemed Honda Accord. Honda’s mid-size offering seems to be getting better and better with every generation and while comfort and fuel economy are its strong points, you can add “safety” to that list as well. The 2021 Accord received a Top Safety Pick + award from the IIHS, which also felt that its LATCH system was really easy to use as the Accord also earned a “Good +” rating in that department.
