5 out of 7 Ford SUVs are struggling against declining sales
It’s not the best day for Ford SUVs. The complex lineup includes nine options, including one that’s electric and one that was recently discontinued. While two of the SUVs celebrate positive growth, the other five face declining sales.
Only two Ford SUVs have positive sales growth
The automotive industry has had some incredible ups and downs since Covid hit in 2020. Inflation causes prices to skyrocket, supply chain shortages delayed production, and recalls have been out of control.
However at least two Ford SUVs managed to increase sales during the second quarter of 2022. The Ford Expedition moved 20,007 SUVs in the second quarter of 2023 and 21,747 in the second quarter of 2024 for an 8.7% sales increase.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E sold 8,633 models in the second quarter of 2023 and 12,645 models in the second quarter of 2024. It got a 46.47 sales increase.
Next up is the Ford Escape. It sold 33,272 SUVs in the second quarter of 2023. This figure was reduced to 37,943 in the second quarter of 2024 for a 13.15% sales decline.
Also, the Ford Bronco Sport moved 33,727 models in the second quarter of 2023 and only 28,189 in the second quarter of 2024. It has a 15.28% sales decrease.
Then the bigger Ford Bronco achieved 26,150 sales in the second quarter of 2023. In the second quarter of 2024, it sold 26,086 units. It almost stayed steady, but got hit with a 0.24% sales decrease.
The Ford Edge is almost no longer with us after being discontinued. It moved 26,202 models in the second quarter of 2023 and 16,522 in the second quarter of 2024. The almost-dead SUV had a 36.94% sales decline.
Finally, the Ford Explorer moved 46,362 models in the second quarter of 2023. Then it only sold 46,338 SUVs in the second quarter of 2024. It was almost steady but had a 0.05% sales decrease.
But perhaps things changed in the third quarter of the year. Also, the fourth quarter provides more time to turn things around.
