It’s 2022, so technically speaking, there’s no such thing as a “bad car.” That’s true, considering many of the cars made today will start right up every time and offer you some really good features. However, there are a few sedans in the market that are unreliable and overpriced.

It’s hard to believe, but Dave Erickson from Everyman Driver recently put out a couple of videos detailing the most unreliable and overpriced vehicles that you should avoid buying in 2022. Here are five of the sedan examples that he noted.

1. 2022 Chrysler 300

The 2022 Chrysler 300 boasts a ton of cabin space and interior comfort in addition to a Hemi V8. However, don’t let its elegant looks and a large amount of power deceive you. The 300 is in dire need of a refresh in order to compete with other cars in its segment.

“Despite its awful looks, decade’s old headlights, and cheap interior, the performance and handling of the 2022 Chrysler 300 are said to be not on par with both muscle cars and full-size sedans offered by its rivals,” Erickson said. “It’s just a huge waste of money and probably the worst car of 2022.”

2. 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage

The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage has an EPA-estimated combined mileage rating of 37 mpg and it’s also one of the cheapest new cars on the market. However, that’s where its charming value starts and stops.

According to Erickson, “The sedan has a grossly underpowered three-cylinder engine that barely manages 78 hp. Not only is the engine noisy, but the car also has awful soundproofing, the interior is full of all kinds of cheap materials and the build quality is below average.”

To top things off, the Mirage also has a terrible predicted reliability rating, according to Consumer Reports.

3. 2022 Nissan Sentra

The 2022 Nissan Sentra competes with other legendary stalwarts like the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla. And while it does offer a great value in the segment, there are some downsides to this compact sedan.

“Even though the Sentra comes with a lot of standard tech features and is comfortable, it lacks performance,” Erickson said.

That lack of performance comes from a standard 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 149 hp and 143 lb-ft of torque, which motivates the car to get to 60 mph from a standstill in 9.2 seconds, according to Car and Driver’s testing. By comparison, the 2022 Honda Civic was able to cover the same distance in 7.3 seconds.

4. 2022 Subaru Impreza

The 2022 Subaru Impreza has a lot to offer in terms of capability as it comes standard with the brand’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system and a 152-hp Boxer engine. However, that engine doesn’t exactly compare well against its rivals.

“(The Impreza has) an underpowered engine with sluggish acceleration, a lousy fuel economy, and a cheap interior,” Erickson said. “Even the exterior is outdated.”

That may sound harsh as the Impreza does offer a lot of interior room and a good list of safety features, however, you may be better off with its competitors.  

5. 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman

The 2022 Mini Countryman offers a spacious cabin, unique styling, and an available all-wheel-drive system. And while there are plenty of available options and features that you can add to a Countryman to personalize it, it all comes at a really high price.

“Probably the worst driving vehicle under the British automaker, thanks to an absurdly uneven ride, but that’s not all. The base trim has a feeble 134-hp, three-cylinder engine, little-to-no active safety features, and a tiny 6.5-inch infotainment system devoid of Apple Carplay and Android Auto,” Erickson said.

In case you’re wondering, the 2022 Countryman carries a base price tag of just under $30,000 and can cost up to over $42,000 with all of the option boxes checked.

Overpriced and unreliable sedans
