Getting regular maintenance on your vehicle may seem expensive, but it can save you a lot of money down the line. Potential problems can be caught early, and you don’t have to worry about your vehicle breaking down. That said, some vehicles are simply more expensive to maintain than others. Here are the five brands with the most expensive 10-year maintenance.

1. Ford

This manufacturer is the cheapest to maintain. Car Edge reports that maintaining a Ford vehicle costs around $9,860 over 10 years. Things start small, with maintenance only costing most owners around $342 the first year. However, this price rapidly increases over the next few years.

By the end of year five, many Ford owners are paying around $757 a year for maintenance and have invested $2,624. By the end of year 10, this number has increased to $1,841. Even more disturbing is a 22.36% chance of a major repair. This does not include recalls, which the Ford company should cover.

2. Dodge

The price really jumps when it comes to Dodge. On average, many owners expect to pay $11,079 over 10 years for their beloved Dodge vehicle. 

The first year costs around $358. In the second year, this price jumps to $425. In year three, you’re looking at $531. By year five, it costs around 841 to maintain, and you’ve invested a total of $2,855. 

This is on top of the monthly payments, insurance, and gas fees you’ll be paying out. By year 10, the price per year is now $2,103, and this will only go up as the vehicle continues to age.

3. Chrysler

There isn’t a significant price hike when comparing Dodge and Chrysler, but you are definitely paying more money. In this case, Chrysler vehicles cost around $11,364 over a 10-year period to maintain.

In the first year, owners will likely invest around $387. By year five, this has increased to $869, for a total of $2,997 over the five years. By year 10, the maintenance cost is around $2,132. 

4. Jeep

There isn’t much change between Chrysler and Dodge for those who choose to go with a Jeep. Given that all three brands are owned by Stellantis, which formed when the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Group merged, this should be no surprise.

That said, Jeep owners are looking at about $11,476 over a 10-year period for maintenance. The first year costs around $394. By year five, owners will be shelling out approximately $879, for a total of $3,040.

By year 10, this price has increased to $2,148. This does not include any after-market accessory Wrangler owners choose to add.

5. Ram has the most expensive 10-year maintenance

RAM may also be a part of the Stellantis group, but the maintenance cost is nearly $5,000 more than Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge. In this case, you’re looking at $16,802 over a 10-year period. 

During the first year of ownership, many drivers are looking at maintenance bills which could be as much as $529. By year five, this price has doubled to $1,270. In total, owners have now put $4,278 into their RAM.

By year 10, owners are looking at maintenance bills of $3,209. If that isn’t bad enough, there is a 40% chance that you’ll be faced with significant repairs during this time, which may increase this price even more. 

If you are looking for something with low maintenance costs, given this information, buying a used RAM may not be the best idea.
